Deena's P.O.V.
Seeing Tine early this morning, well, I was not prepared of that.
When she opened her door, it was like, she was waiting for me.
And when I cut her off, the pain in her face was so visible I almost reached her hand and comforted her.
"So, that's it, then. We'll propose this expansion to Mr. Riva and go from there." Sabrina said, taking me back to my senses.
"Are you okay?" She asked when I didn't speak.
"What? Yeah, yeah, of course. Why wouldn't I be?" I gave her a fake and awkward laugh which I'm sure she didn't buy.
"Did you finally sleep with Kristine?" She asked again.
"What???" I almost yelled.
"Well, witnessing that silent war you had this morning, I just figured, something might have happened between you two."
"And it would be sleeping together, right? Because that's what friends fight about." I rolled my eyes at her and stood up. She followed me as I opened my door.
We bid goodbye even without continuing that conversation, which I was glad about as I didn't want to go into details about the 'fight' I had with Tine.
She kissed me last night.
The first kiss I shared with her was, you know, she was drunk and she didn't remember it. But last night? She was sober, and she didn't kiss me just once but twice.
And she couldn't explain what that was.
Is she liking me now?
She has a boyfriend, Travis, a perfect guy for her.
And she's straight, right?
I closed my door and threw myself on my couch.
How can I focus on work now if I can't stop thinking about the girl next door?
I know she wanted to talk, she tried to call me this morning but I purposely didn't answer.
Well, mentally, especially emotionally, I was not prepared for that.
If I had to guess what that conversation gonna be, she was just gonna tell me that it was a mistake, she didn't know what that was and it shouldn't happen again.
I mean... Why would she kiss me twice?
Even though a part of me was scared to talk to her about what happened, I think it's best that we have to, but not now, maybe at the end of the day.
I didn't leave my office the whole day. I didn't even have lunch and the only time I was going out was to go to the bathroom.
Twice today, Tine knocked on my door and twice, I pretended that I was busy. I didn't even look up to see her face.
The time I was afraid of came, it was the end of the day.
The whole day, a plan came to mind, and I had to gather my mental and emotional strength for the 'talk' I was gonna have with Kristine.
I fixed my table and gathered my stuff before heading to my door.
Tine's light is still on, meaning she didn't leave yet.
I sighed deeply before knocking at her door.
Instead of Kristine's face, it was Travis's.
"Oh hey, Deena!" He greeted.
I heard a loud thud inside as soon as Travis mentioned my name.
Travis opened the door wider for me to come inside.
Tine was awkwardly picking up her stuff off the floor. Her bag must've fallen off and her things scattered on the floor.
"You okay, babe?" I heard Travis ask her and kneel to help her.
"Y-Yeah, yeah." She said, her eyes focus on me."
"Umm, Travis, can you give us please a minute?" I told him as soon as they were done.
"Of course. I'll be just outside, ok?" He told Kristine as he kissed her cheek.
With that image, I felt a tight knot forming on my chest that I had to look away.
A couple of minutes passed and none of us talked. I guess, none of us knows how to start the conversation.
"Tine, look..." When I couldn't bear the silence anymore. "Last night... I get it. I mean..." I sighed.
"Okay fine, I don't get it. And I don't think I will ever get it because obviously, you don't understand it yourself so... Anyway, I needed some time off that's why I couldn't face you today. But we cannot be like this, I mean, we cannot stay like this, I cannot avoid you every day so, last night, let's just forget about it, okay?"
I told her with the most convincing voice I could muster.
Tine's face was blank though. I couldn't read if she was relieved or what. She was just looking at me blankly and expressionless.
"Tine?" I called on her.
"Uhh... Yeah, yeah. Umm, That's... That's what I was gonna, umm, talk to you about. Yeah."
I nodded my head slowly, a part of me not convinced of what she just said but I let it go.
"Okay, I'm glad we sorted that out. So, I'm gonna go. Good night." I didn't wait for her to answer me, I turned my back and left her.
Travis greeted me again before going back to Kristine's office.
"Hey, you look blue, wanna go clubbing?" Thea anchored her arm to mine.
"Sure."
"Really? I mean, let's go!" Thea pulled me hurriedly to the elevator, afraid I was gonna change my mind.
I feel like drinking anyway, better do it in the right place.
I drove us both while she told me about the guy she was currently seeing and we're actually meeting him there.
I parked in front of the club where we used to go as a group with Kristine and our colleagues.
As soon as we went inside, the music was blasting and the lights were flashing, making the whole place feel like another world. It was exactly what I needed - to be somewhere I could escape my thoughts.
Thea dragged me to the bar and ordered us both drinks. I downed mine quickly, hoping it would dull the confusion swirling in my mind.
We danced for a while, letting the music take over. It felt good to move, to let go of everything if only for a few moments.
Thea was in her element, laughing and flirting with her new guy, who had joined us. I tried to join in their fun, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Tine.
After a while, I needed a break and headed back to the bar for another drink. As I gulped my drink, I felt a presence next to me. I turned to see a brunette girl, obviously eyeing me.
"Hey!" She greeted me a bit loud as the music was louder. "Can I buy you that drink?" She leaned a bit over to me. Her eyes sparkled under the club's lights, and her smile was warm and inviting.
"Sure," I replied, trying to muster some enthusiasm. Maybe a distraction was exactly what I needed.
She ordered another drink for me and introduced herself. "I'm Jessica, by the way."
"Hi. I'm Deena."
