"He who loves has found the key to the ultimate truth; he who hates is faced with nothingness" - Martin Luther King
Aurora was not dead yet, she was alive, she existed. Her heart was beating, her lungs were breathing, but this unbelievably empty feeling inside her made her want to just give up. Just stop, fall down and then never get up again. She was not a corpse yet, she was a living being. And yet Aurora felt herself rotting. She felt herself getting smaller and smaller inside. Did she even have a heart left that could bear suffering?
In fact, she had already forgotten what it meant to feel, even the pain could no longer sting her. So why was Aurora alive? She did it for her daughter, and she still did it because she could not rest until she knew the truth about Kara.
That's why she sat next to Romy and waited for someone to give her some answers. Romy talked about a lot of things, about Kara, about the beautiful days when the four of them had gone to the amusement park together or into the forest, which had smelled of fresh green leaves.Aurora still remembered how they had gone camping once and it had rained. They had all been able to laugh about it, even though they were wet. They laughed because they could laugh carefree about life. But now? Now Aurora wished that it would all end.
"Listen, I understand that you want to cheer me up, but... that's not what I want to hear from you," Aurora turned to her friend, her eyes shimmering slightly in the light. The woman paused and looked at Aurora. "As soon as I tell you, you'll hate me. You'll hate yourself. Everything. I'm afraid... that you won't survive," Romy whispered and sniffed. But Aurora was not satisfied. "Then I'll die! I want to know the truth! I can't live with a lie any longer... every day when I wake up, a new nightmare begins. My mind can't handle all of this anymore," Aurora explained, thinking of the countless sleepless nights that had plagued her for years.
Another silence forced its way between the two women. Silence was the only thing Aurora was really good at. Just being quiet, keeping her mouth shut. That was the only language she could speak fluently. It was as if she was screaming her words in her head, so that only she could hear her desperate cries for help. "I'm sorry, I have to go out for a minute-, I-," Romy jumped up and hurried out of the room. She grabbed her suitcase and stumbled down the stairs."What? No! Romy, wait! You can't just leave!" Aurora shouted, overwhelmed, and stormed after her. She bumped into the door and almost fell over on the step, but she hurried on anyway. Romy ripped open the door and headed for her red Audi.
"Please forgive me if you can, but I can't do any of this anymore. It was a mistake to come here," Romy sniffed and threw her suitcase into the car. Aurora reached her friend and grabbed her hand.
She bristled with fear, her whole body was shaking, she refused to accept reality. Romy would rather put her rose-colored glasses back on and look at the world carefully with her dreamy eyes. It was fear that drove Romy forward. The enormous fear that had been building up inside her for years, like drops of rain in a barrel. But every additional drop made the barrel overflow, every additional fear drove Romy to despair. Only now could you see her true colors. Her dull, weak colors.
"You can't be serious! You can't just leave without telling me the damn truth! Damn it, Romy, you can't do that to me!" Aurora ripped the car keys out of her hand. Then, without hesitation, she threw him as far as she could off the cliff. No one would leave this island. Not as long as the lies stopped. Not as long as Romy and Josephine confessed. Only then would everything end. Only then would the storm calm down.
