"She's not an ordinary girl, well, she looks normal and does a lot of normal kid things but there's one thing about her that sets her back from the rest; autism."

Y/n sat on her brothers bad, rocking back and forth as they both listened to their parents argue. Your mother wanted the both of you to go to school, instead of home schooling.  

"They said they don't wanna go" your father, Nate told ur mom

"But their ready" your mom said back

"No, their not" he said

"I can't homeschool them forever, every year we wait, it'll be harder to start. This is the first year of middle school for everyone. They won't be the only new kids." She argued

"Ok well they're gonna be the only new kids who look and act like them. It's like leading a lamb to the slaughter and you know it." Nate said

"We know we'll never be ordinary kids Ordinary kids don't make other kids run away from playgrounds. Ordinary kids don't get stared at wherever they go. But it's okay if you wanna stare, too. My name is Auggie Pullman. Next week, me and my twin sister start fifth grade. And since I've never been to real school before, I'm pretty much totally and completely petrified."

Your sister helped you into your pjs before leading you back to your room. "Can you stay in your room tonight like a big girl?" Your sister, via asked, knowing you get up during the night.

Your head moved from side to side as you just laughed, nothing was funny, but you just laughed, "I'll take that as a yes." She said, bringing your covers over you.

The next day

You and auggie held your mom's hand as you walked to meet your principal.

"Mrs. Pullman, so good to see you again." He shook your moms hand

And you must be Auggie and y/n What a pleasure to meet you. "He held out a hand for you and auggie to shake, you just stared

"Im mr. Tuchsmen"

Auggie started to laugh

"You can laugh about that .I've heard 'em all. Tushy. Butt man. Butt face."

Your mother chuckled

"Oh. Mr. Tuchus."

You brother snorted and you began laughing

You kicked your feet and rocked yourself as you sat in the chair in me. Tuchsmens office.

"And then in the spring, we have a science fair. And from what your home school teacher tells me, you'll get first prize." Mr tuchsmen explaines

"You hear that, Auggie? Y/n?"

"SCIENCE!" You yelled, a little to loudly

"Then right before graduation, whole class takes a trip to a nature reserve in Pennsylvania. It is the highlight of the year. I promise you." Mr tuchsmen explained in confidence.

You turned your head at the chatter of children from the open door leading out to the halls.

"Oh good their here" he said

There were three kids in the hall, two boys and one girl. Your mom looked at you and auggie as the two of you looked towards the door.

"Who are they?" Auggie asked

Well I thought it would be helpful to meet some of our students fore you start school, Auggie. What do you think?" He asked, looking at the two of you

"Other kids now?" He questioned, feeling nervous
