Y/NAfter we had some cake, I politely excused myself and returned to my room, despite Kian's protest. I simply couldn't stand being in the same room as Mr. Jeon.
The following day, I left my room just to get something to eat. I made sure Mr. Jeon wasn't nearby before doing so. I wasn't as lucky in the evening when he was already in the kitchen getting a drink, but I just ignored him and didn't bother saying anything. It's not like he was trying to strike up a conversation with me, anyway. But his eyes were on me the whole time.
Ignoring him in that way made me feel immature, but I just couldn't bring myself to talk to him after all the things he said to me.
He was right, I had all I ever wanted in my life, my father made sure I had all the possible things that I asked for. But I wasn't craving for people's attention.
I wanted him, to notice me. But I don't think he understood that, and I'll just let him believe whatever he wants.
This went on for days. I would go to work, return home, and have my dinner alone in my room. The only interaction I had with Mr. Jeon was during our morning meetings.
Outside of those meetings, we barely exchanged a word. It was as if we were two strangers sharing the same space, each lost in our own thoughts and responsibilities.
I couldn't help but feel a sense of loneliness and isolation during those days. Despite being surrounded by colleagues, I felt like I was drifting further and further away from everyone around me. Mr. Jeon's presence only seemed to amplify that feeling, as his cold and distant demeanor made it clear that he had no interest in forming any kind of personal connection with me.
It was Friday morning, and we were gathered for a board meeting. Daniel, Emily, Nicole, and two other finance department staff were present. A new hotel brand was interested in partnering with Jeon International, offering to sell 60% of their residences to our company. This was a huge deal, the most important one of the year.
"Has a date been set for our upcoming meeting?" Mr. Jeon asks.
"Yes, sir. We have a scheduled meeting with them within the upcoming weeks." Daniel answers.
We've got everything we need right here on our table, their informations about their business partners, events, contracts, you name it. It's all laid out for us to make the next move.
I've come across a familiar place in one of the pictures of their hotels. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm certain I've seen it somewhere before. Although I've never been there for a vacation or anything, the image feels oddly familiar.
"Ms. Anderson" Mr. Jeon speaks up "Is there something wrong?"
"No sir. Everything is fine." I didn't pay attention for just a second and he noticed.
"Good. We're done for today. Make sure everything is ready for when the time comes. I won't tolerate any mistakes."
We pack up our stuff and head out of the office.
"What's wrong?" Daniel asks as we walk to our desks.
"I can't put my finger on it, but one of the hotels looks familiar to me. I just can't recall where I've seen it before."
"Maybe you've been there before?" Emily asks.
"No, I've never been to Virginia before."
As soon as we settle down at our desks, I notice someone walking towards us. But I don't turn my head to look over, until they actually call out my name.
