Time skip: Week later

Nicks POV
Mum has been in the hospital for about a week now going through chemo. She ultimately decided that she could never do something knowing she may forget the most important people in her life.David visited a couple of days ago but didn't stay long. I've been spending the night at the hospital with mum and Charlie takes Abby back to our house and she has just been staying there. Today is her first day back after finding out about mum since we thought it might be best to give her a bit of break considering how she handled the news when she found out. I'm still worried about her. I've never seen her act like that. Even if she's very loud and bright person she never breaks rules or do things to put herself into danger. And now she barely talks and has a lot shorter temper. Also Charlie told me whenever they get back from the hospital she goes straight up to the guest room and only comes out to eat. Hopefully her going to school won't make things worse. But if it does I told her she could just text me and I would pick her up immediately.

Abigail's POV
Today's my first day back after my break and I'm terrified. What if while I'm at school something happens to mum and I'm not there with her. I try to push these thoughts out my head considering I didn't tell anyone and no one can know. Especially Carla. I get out of Charlie's car and wave goodbye. He has been so sweet to me considering I haven't been the nicest back. It's just hard to be nice to people knowing the nicest person I know is going through horrible shit. I walk over to Oliver who is surprised to see me.
" Abby! Where were you?"
" Oh I was uhm.. Sick"
" Oh well glad you're back!" Oliver is so nice. I don't get why nice people get the worse shit.
" So did anything happen while I was gone?"
" Not really, without you here Carla had no one to mess with" Oliver said with a slight laugh" She may have missed you " Oliver says to me joking. I laugh trying to distract myself from all the thoughts in my head. I part my ways with Oliver and head over to Higgs. I'm excited to see my friends mainly cause that whole week I didn't talk to anyone. A few people texted me but I just ignored it. I see Lily and go and sit next to her.
"Abby where were you. I texted you and called you and you were gone for a week!"
" I was really sick and I had my phone turned off because I mainly just slept."
" oh well I'm glad your back. Form has been horrible without you, Mrs Lott just never stops talking." I laugh because me and Lily both hate Mrs Lott so much and that's actually how we got so close. Hating the same person really forms a bond between two people. I make it through form and head to my next couple of classes and everything is normal. Until I get to Lunch and I see Carla. It's my first day back I'm not trying to start anything. I find Lily, Ruby, and Eve and we head over to our normal table.
" So glad your back Abbs. These two just start the most random arguments between each other." Says Eve.
" Rude!" Ruby says acting shocked. Ruby and Lily have this thing where they can't let the other one be right so they always start little arguments. But me and Eve can normally balance it out. We all fit together though. Our little group. We finish up lunch and head back to class. Nothing happens the rest of the day which is good since I didn't need any other distractions. I wave goodbye by to the group and see Charlie's car. I walk over to it and get in.
" Hey Abby did you have a good day?"
" Yea it was pretty normal" I'm going to try and be nicer to Charlie since he's doing a lot for my family right now.
" Well that's good. Do you want to go home and change or go straight to the hospital?"
" We can go straight there." I don't think I can be away from mum any longer. We start to drive towards the hospital until I feel my phone buzz.

Nick couldn't pick me up and I'm going over there.

I'm not ready to tell Oliver about mum yet. Even though he knows everything about me I don't think I could tell him about this.

Oh ok. Do you want me to see if I can come over?

Oh it's fine, Nick is just gonna be helping me with some of the work I missed last week.

I put my phone back into my pocket and Charlie looks over to me and I think he can see I was a bit stressed. I'm not the best at lying so hopefully Oliver doesn't think into too much.
" You alright Abby?"
" Yea all good" I say looking over at Charlie with a slight smile.
" who were you talking to?"
" Oli "
Charlie smiles. Even if they don't say it I know Nick and Charlie really like that me and Oliver are friends. But also one time Nick asked if u liked Oliver which was so weird. Oliver is my best friend and I think it would just be weird if we dated. Like I know you're supposed to date someone who's like a best friend to you but I'm pretty sure Oliver doesn't like me like that and I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship. But on the other hand Nick and Charlie were best friends... But it doesn't matter, I dont like Oliver. At least I don't think I don't...

Authors note: Hey guys hope you like this chapter. I may kinda rush this part of the story considering it's have so many ideas but I have to wait til after the stuff with Sarah. Towards the end of the book I'm gonna need suggestions on some happy stuff you want to see considering the first half of the book will be pretty sad. Anyways hope you have a great day/night💕💕
