The night stretched on, the fire crackling and casting flickering shadows across the cabin walls. Emily and Daniel slept fitfully, wrapped in blankets, their breaths steadier as warmth seeped back into their bodies. Rachel tended to them, occasionally checking their temperature and adjusting the blankets.

Thomas kept a watchful eye on them, his expression reflecting both relief and concern. Despite the temporary safety of the cabin, the events weighed heavily on his mind. The stalker, their harrowing escape through the forest, and now, the condition of his friends—all of it felt like a nightmare he couldn't wake from.

Michael returned with water, his footsteps heavy but determined. He placed the container by the fireplace, wiping sweat from his brow. "Got some water," he announced, his voice weary but hopeful.

Olivia sat quietly, her earlier turmoil still echoing in her mind. She longed to contribute more, to ease the burden on her friends, but the darkness that whispered to her made her doubt herself at every turn.

Thomas noticed Olivia's withdrawn demeanor and sat down beside her, his presence a silent offer of support. "You okay?" he asked softly.

Olivia hesitated a moment before responding, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm trying to be."

"You're doing great, Olivia," Thomas said earnestly. "We wouldn't have made it this far without you."

Olivia managed a small smile, grateful for his words. "I just wish... I wish I could do more." Her voice broke as she fought back the tears.

"You're doing exactly what we need," Thomas assured her. "Just being here, supporting each other, that's what matters most, that's what friends do"

Feeling the weight of Thomas's reassurance, Olivia leaned slightly against him, finding comfort in his presence. Thomas instinctively wrapped an arm around her shoulders, offering a silent gesture of support.

Olivia closed her eyes briefly, allowing herself to lean into the warmth of his embrace, grateful for his understanding. She didn't need to say anything; Thomas seemed to understand her silent thanks.

The crackling of the fire filled the cabin with a gentle, rhythmic sound, like a lullaby coaxing her to sleep. The worries and doubts that had plagued her mind began to fade into the background as she surrendered to the quiet moment of tranquility.

Slowly, without even realizing it, Olivia's tense muscles relaxed, and her breathing grew deeper and more even. The tension that had knotted her shoulders began to unwind as she slowly drifted into a peaceful slumber, finding refuge in the safety of their makeshift haven and the strength of her friends beside her.

Thomas remained close to Olivia, his exhaustion was evident in the lines on his face, but he stayed vigilant, keeping watch over his friends while Olivia slept peacefully against him. He occasionally glanced toward Rachel and Michael, silently acknowledging their efforts with a nod of gratitude.

Michael, still weary but determined, worked on fortifying the cabin. He reinforced the door with a makeshift barricade of furniture, adding an extra layer of security against any potential threats from outside. His movements were methodical, his focus unwavering despite the fatigue weighing on him.

He sat back from his work on the barricade and looked around, at his friends, his eyes lingering on each face. "I'm scared," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

Rachel paused in her tending, her hands stilling on a blanket. "We're all scared," she said, meeting his gaze.

Thomas tightened his grip around Olivia, feeling empathy for Michael's admission. He exchanged a knowing glance with Rachel before speaking softly, "As long as we stick together, we can make it through this." His eyes were fixed on the ground before him. He knew what happened to Olivia, he saw it happen, so he couldn't make that promise without lying.
