It had been several months now. Scarlet was staying with Cam, away from everyone. Abby was devastated to lose Scarlet, but she understood. The girls that worked alongside her would also miss the banter and laughs they used to have in the shop.
Cam had taken Scarlet to Greece and then Italy. They were currently staying in Turkey. It may have been crazy for her to trust Cam enough to let him take her away, but she wasn't thinking. Her heart was too broken. Luckily, he didn't turn out to be a trafficker or anything like that. She also came to really like his company. They became fast friends, and he helped her heart mend a little.
Abby tried to contact Clark, but he was out of reach. Cam had also sent all the evidence of the sister's crimes to Clarks brother's address. Scarlet had destroyed her phone, so Clark would not be able to reach her.
Clark...
The brothers sat with their feet in the ocean, hanging from surfboards that they had tried to ride. Both had no luck, so they just sat and floated.
"How are you doing, bro?" Anthony asked.
"I really don't know. Getting away has been great, but the reel world awaits. I think it is time we get back. I need to find another job, and the parents are going to be pissed that you have been off so long."
"Come work with us. Dad will cut you some slack."
"Maybe, Ant. This might be the time. I have no woman to get home to, so long hours will not matter now."
They sat for a little longer, contemplating, before heading to the hotel they were staying in. Anthony decided that California was a great place to visit. So great that they stayed and travelled all around the USA before heading back to California for their last bit of the trip.
Clark took one more look at the ocean before walking away, his heart a little lighter, but the sadness still lingered. He knew that reality was calling, and it was time to go home.
Scarlet...
The night sky was beautiful as the pair lay side by side on the beach. A few torches lighted the way back when they needed to leave.
"I need to go back, Cam. This has been great, but I can't keep running. Clark needs to know the truth about his maybe girlfriend."
"Do you want him back, Scar?"
"Hell no. That ship sailed the moment he took Clair to bed. I don't care what he was feeling at the time. That was just cruel. I didn't think he could hurt me like that."
A stray tear escaped her eye. Cam saw and reached over to brush it away. He had fallen hard for Scarlet, and it hurt him knowing the part he played. He would be there for her even if it was just as a friend.
The finger he used to wipe away the tear slid to Scarlet's hair, pushing it behind her ear. He then leaned over and gently laid his lips on hers. She was stunned at first, but he was so gentle.
Cam started to pull away, worried that he had crossed a line when Scarlet surprised him by sliding her hand behind his head and pulling him back down to her.
He kissed her then, deeply. His heart beating through his chest as her tongue slid into his mouth, caressing his. Cam then slid a hand up to cup Scarlet's breast, thinking that she would stop him. He moved slowly, giving her a chance, but she didn't stop him. Instead, her breath got uneven, and her chest rose at his touch.
Laughing in the distance pulled them out of it before things got too heated. A group of women were headed to the bar that was out on a pier.Cam got up then and assisted Scarlet to get up. Both of them breathed heavy and smiled at each other.
"Wow, um, I." Cam was unable to form words at this point.
"Unlike you not know what to say, Cam."
"Sorry. I will walk you back." Taking Scarlets hand in his, they walked to the hotel.
Both were quiet during the walk to their rooms. Although Cam could afford one of the best rooms, he chose one next to Scarlet. She insisted on contributing, as she felt bad that Cam wanted to pay for it all.
When they reached their destination, Cam leaned in for a goodnight kiss. But Scarlet turned her head away and opened her door. She then took back Cams hand, leading him inside her room.
Clark...
Arriving back in the UK was a bit of a shock. From the California sunshine to the cold of the British winter. It went with Clarks now cold heart.
A bubbly redhead strode up to the brothers, Clark smiled at the woman.
"Hi, I am your ride. Sorry, I am new, my name is Charlotte."
Clark bristled at the name that was so close to the one he wanted to forget. He thought that maybe this redhead could help him take his mind off things for an hour or two. Putting his hand on her back, he charmed the woman into taking him alone while his brother got alternate transport. He then got her to detour down a quiet road so they could have a little fun.
"Wow, Clark, that was great. My first day on the job, and I met my dream man."
"Yes, this was fun, but I am not repeating it. You can take me home now, Scarlet."
"Um, it's Charlotte. You are so cold. What happened to make you hate women."
"Not your concern. Just do what you are paid for and drive."
The woman was shocked and ashamed of herself for giving in that easy.
When Clark arrived back at his brother's place, he was very tense. The redhead hadn't taken all the edge off.
Anthony came out as the car pulled up. He was carrying a large, thick envelope.
Getting out, he noticed the look on Anthony's face.
"Bro, you need to look at these. I opened them out of habit without looking at the name."
Clark took the papers out, and he suddenly felt sick as he went through them. His face paled, and tears filled his eyes.
"What the hell did I do?" Clark spoke to nobody in particular.
