Through the Veil

Chapter 20

"Iris" Remus starts, pausing to look at the twins "That was Liz who just called. Care was in an accident on her way home" 

Sirius took over, "Iris, Liz said that its bad. You three need to get ready and we will take you to the hospital"

Fred and George are pale, "What happened, how did they wreck" "What do you mean by it's bad" they ask quietly. Remus is telling them about it but Sirius is watching Iris. Something's not right.

Sirius walks over to Iris, grabbing her shoulders to get her attention, "Iris, did you hear what we said" he asks cautiously. 

Iris is numb. The room starts to shake, her power is lashing out at what they told her. This can't be happening. Not to Care. She won't let this happen. Everyone is trying to get her to calm down, the whole house is shaking now. Iris looks to the four standing in front of her, blinks at them. She rubs the bracelet that Death had given her and she's gone.

"Where did she go" Sirius asks frantically. He had never seen anything like that. What had just happened to his pup. Her eyes had turned black, the whole eye, then she turned into shadows and was gone. There was no sound or even movement on her part. She literally blinked out of existence. Shit, this is not good.

"I think we need to get to the hospital. I guarantee that's where she is." Remus tells him, rushing everyone outside. "There is an alley beside the hospital that we can apparate to. We don't have time to drive"

They all rush out and 'pop' 'pop' 'pop' 'pop' they're gone.

Iris waits for the doctors to stabilize Care. She wouldn't want to mess anything up by moving to soon. Care looks so small in the giant hospital bed. She is laying there with a tube down her throat, oxygen in her nose and her hair all bloody. She would throw a fit if she could see herself. 

Iris materializes out of the shadows. She isn't really sure how that happened but assumed it was a gift from Death. Walking up to her best friend, her sister. She refused to let Caroline die. There was no way she would survive without her. 

Iris ran her hand over Carolines head, her magic reaching out to fix anything it could find. Noticing that the internal damage was significant, she directs her magic towards it. Concentrating, she heals everything that she can in the short time she has. Iris knows the doctors will be back, they had been talking surgery. Noticing she's out of time, Iris kisses Cares forehead and merges back to shadows just in time for the doctors and Liz to walk in. 

The doctors run more test, shocked to find that their first results had been off. "She still has significant injuries but it seems there is no internal bleeding. I advise keeping her asleep so her body has more time to heal" the doctor tells Liz. 

Hearing her family in the hall, Iris takes it as her cue to get out there. Sirius is the first to notice the shadow appear in the corner, green eyes instead of the eerie black now. He walks towards her, grabbing the attention of the others. 

Iris walks out of the shadow, straight into Siri's arms. "Thank Merlin pup, you fucking disappeared. We didn't know what happened." he whispers to her.

Iris clings onto him tighter, whispering back, "I couldn't let her die Siri. She was so bad that the doctors wouldn't have been able to do anything. She was a mess" Iris cries on him. Remus and the twins walk up to them, hearing what she told Sirius, he grabs them both into a hug. Pulling the twins in as well.

Matt and Tyler walk into the room and sit down. Iris looked them over but noticed that there were no major injuries, mainly cuts and bruises. The doctors and Liz all walk out of Carolines room. Liz looks right at Iris.

Iris releases her family, walking over to Liz she hugs her. She can tell Liz isn't use to it but relaxes into the hold. Liz takes a breath, releasing Iris and tells that the doctors looked over Caroline again. "They said she looked a lot worse when she came in, they honestly didn't know if she would have made it" Liz chokes up, continuing, "Now they are just wanting to keep her asleep so that she can continue to heal". Iris sighs in relief and the dam finally breaks. Fred and George take her to sit down and hold her while she cries. 

Liz watches how they take care of Iris, they treat her like a little sister. She knows that Caroline has gotten really close with them and seeing how they take care of Iris she rethinks everything she thought about the relationship. Liz thinks that maybe these two young men could be just what Caroline needs, God knows one man would never be able to handle her. Liz decides that she would make sure to get to know them, for her daughter.

Throughout the night, people came and went. The three who had sat on the couch never moved. Remus and Sirius made sure to get them food and drinks because they wouldn't eat on their own. The men thought for a moment they would have to remove Iris. 

Elena had shown up, Damon followed shortly. Iris could tell that something else was going on and wanted them to leave. Elena got mouthy and Damon tried backing her up. Then Bonnie finally showed. Iris was over all of them. They had treated Care like crap, and she wouldn't stand for them wanting to be her friends now. They came and went for the whole next day and night until Care was allowed people in her room. 

Iris, Fred and George had to be physically removed from the hospital. Liz had walked in and took one look at the three and ordered them home. They tried to argue with her but she had called in backup. Sirius and Remus. Liz promised that Caroline would be fine until they came in the morning. "You need to sleep in your beds, come back in the morning and when we are all here the doctors are going to wake her up" that seemed to be the only thing that made them leave.
