Chapter Twelve

"The last night I had a foreboding feeling this strong was the day my grandfather died."

^~^

"Wait... what?" Did I hear him correctly just now?

"I said: is it true that you guys are dating?" Caden repeated. I felt my face heating p and my heart speeding up. Wait, why am I feeling like this? It's not like I haven't dated before. What's wrong with me?

"No," Ame and I said, simultaneously.

"Where'd you get that idea?" I asked.

"That's what everyone's saying. I guess the rumors aren't true then," he said. Since when are rumors ever true?

"Nope. Not true at all," Ame said. There was a hint of perplexity in her jade green eyes, but she hid it well. "We're just friends."

"Yeah," I said, "just friends." For some reason, I felt the tiniest bit of disappointment.

"Alright, then," he said.

"That explains the staring earlier," Ame pointed out.

"Staring?" Caden asked.

"When we walked in a few minutes ago, everyone's eyes were focused on us," I said. "It was really weird."

"Well, you better get used to it. You guys are 1A's center of attention now," he said, smirking. "Good luck getting away from your fans."

"I'll need it," I said.

Alice walked out of the kitchen carrying two to-go boxes. She held them out to Ame and me. "Here's your food."

"Thank you," we said. At the same time. Again. We looked at each other.

This is staring to get kinda weird.

"You're welcome," she replied, smiling.

"Okay, let's go now," Caden said, pretty much dragging Alice out the door. "See you losers later!" Someone's eager to get out of here.

"Bye guys! See you tomorrow!" she said as she was pulled away.

There was an unsettling silence. What's with this atmosphere? It's so awkward.

I decided to break the silence, "Are you alright? You're probably in a lot pain right now."

"Not that much," she said, looking a bit dazed.

"Don't lie. There's no way that isn't hurting."

"It is but not that much." The same blank look was on her face.

"Sure," I said, sarcastically. I remembered the small bottle in my backpack. "Come one. Let's go to the room. The medics gave me some pain killers you can take."

"Okay."

We walked out of the dining hall. 1A stared at us again. Seriously, how in the world are we going to get away from these stalkers? Don't they have anything better to do? As we passed by, I heard these idiots spouting nonsense.

"Dude, it's Erik and his girl!"

"His girl is kinda hot. How come I haven't seen her before?"

"Dunno, but she's cuter than May and the rest. Maybe we should try to take her from him!"

I don't know why, but hearing them say that, even though we're not really together, pissed me off. Or at least got me really irritated.

"Nah, don't even try. You don't stand a chance against Erik. He's in a totally different league."
