“Yeonmi, are you okay?” Taehyung's mother's voice was distant as I blankly stared at a spot where I just saw him standing with his pretty smile before she entered his room and he disappeared.

“Mi, tell me, are you okay?” She again asked me, this time I nodded at her.

“You will be fine, Mi. I get–” I sharply cut off her sentence with my own.

“How will I be fine, eomma?” I said. “How? Do you expect me to feign a smile to show people that I'm doing okay with my boyfriend's death? When the only person who understood me, cared for me, loved me is now gone! And he's not coming back either!”

“You even thought doing his funeral without me knowing, will make everything better?! Huh? Do you have any idea of how many times I called him but he didn't pick up and I thought he was planning a surprise for me?! After then what? After I would have came back, what explanation were you planning to feed me?! That my love suddenly got abducted by alien?!? Or the mother earth swallowed him!?”

“Yeonmi, I understand wh–”

“–No! No, you don't! You don't understand what I'm going through! What I feel everyday knowing that he's not beside me and when I only wish every morning to see his glowing face! If only I hadn't left for that stupid business and he would have been alive and beside me–” My body collided with her when she grabbed my arm to hug me tight.

“–YEONMI, he didn't want you to blame yourself! What happened, was by fate! Nobody could have predicted what was going to happen in the future! I know, I know! I know it hurts very much, and I'm affected by his death too! I'm sorry for trying to hide this from you but I knew it was going to hurt you deeply. I'm suffering like you too, Yeonmi..!” She sobbed at the end, and soon we both started crying in each other's embrace.

“I–i am sorry eomma, for saying that to you, I– was not–”

“I know, I know it all. It's okay.” She caressed my back softly as she consoled me.
