I felt my heart flutter at being directly addressed by Jessica once again. I could sense Calum growing increasingly irritated as I spoke to her, but I didn’t care. “It was his idea, actually. He…wanted to surprise me” I said, trying not to sound too critical of Calum in front of her."Hmm. That was nice." She said eyeing Calum skeptically.

Calum bristled at the coolness in Jessica's tone. I could tell he was starting to feel insulted, but he tried to maintain composure. “Yeah, it was nice. But you know how romantic Paris is.” he said, wrapping his arm tighter around me. Suddenly her boyfriend whispered into her ear. "I do hate my schedule sometimes...." she sighed out while pinching the bridge of her nose. "I'm sorry, but I have to cut this short. Freya, you have my number, yes?"

I felt a pang of disappointment at the thought of Jess leaving so soon, but I quickly nodded. “Yes, I do” I said, trying to keep the hint of sadness out of my voice. "Wonderful! Text me if you want to meet up later during your trip." She said with a smile. My heart skipped a beat at the invitation, feeling a mix of excitement and guilt. But before I could respond, Calum spoke up again.

“Wait, what’s going on? You’re leaving so soon?” he said, sounding confused and a little annoyed. "Ah, yes." She said calmly. Calum looked disappointed and a little frustrated, but he tried to hide it. "But you just got here. Can't you stay a little longer?" he asked, trying to sound casual, but the urgency in his voice was evident. "Um.. why?"

Calum hesitated for a moment, not wanting to sound too eager. "Just...to talk." he said, trying to sound casual. But I could see the hint of jealousy in his eyes, especially when he glanced at her boyfriend, who was standing beside her, towering over him. "No. I have more important things to attend to." She hissed out with a hand on her hip.

Calum looked taken aback by her abruptness and tone, but he quickly tried to mask his surprise with a scoff. "More important than staying here and talking?" he asked incredulously, not believing that she could have something more important than him. "Yes." Calum's confidence was clearly starting to falter, and he stumbled over his words, trying to regain control of the situation.

"But...why? What's so important that you can't even spend a few more minutes here?" he asked, sounding more petulant now. She scoffed and spun around and walked away. "Jasper. Lets go." She said sharply. Her boyfriend, Jasper followed suit quietly but I could see sweat along his neck.

Calum was left standing there, looking stunned and a little baffled. He watched as Jessica and Jasper walked away, his ego bruised from the short exchange. “Who does she think she is?” he muttered, still reeling from being rebuffed so bluntly.

I stood there silently, feeling a mix of frustration, disappointment, and a tinge of guilt. I knew that I would probably have to hear Calum's complaints about the encounter, but at this point, I hardly cared. My eyes lingered on Jessicas retreating form, feeling a pang of longing as I watched her walk away. Calum grumbled beside me, still reeling from the stinging rejection. He looked at me with a mix of annoyance and possessiveness.

“Can you believe her? She acts like she’s too important to talk to anyone” he said, his ego bruised and his pride wounded. I sighed quietly, trying to keep my own emotions in check. I knew that if I showed any sign of agreement with Calum or took Jessica’s side in this, it would lead to a fight. So I forced a small smile and placed a hand on his arm, trying to soothe him.

“Maybe she just really does have something important to do,” I said diplomatically. Calum huffed, not satisfied with my response. “But still, she could’ve at least stayed a little longer. Or said something nicer.” he whined, still feeling stung from the encounter. I rolled my eyes internally at his whining. It was always the same with Calum - he couldn’t handle not being the center of attention. But I kept my expression neutral, not wanting to antagonize him further.

“Maybe she just wasn’t interested in talking to us,” I said gently, trying to placate him.
