I chuckled softly at her proposition. Spending time drinking and talking with Jess sounded infinitely more appealing than being stuck with Calum for the rest of evening.
"Sounds good to me" I replied, a smile on my lips. We made our way over to the bar, grabbing a couple of cocktails and finding a secluded spot where we could talk without being interrupted. I took a sip of my drink, feeling the alcohol warm my body as I leaned back against the wall. "How have you been after our... makeout sesh all those months ago." She lowered her voice and leaned in close to me.
I felt my cheeks heat up at her words, remembering the passionate make-out session we had indulged in. I took a gulp of my drink, trying to compose myself before responding. "I've been fine" I said, trying to sound nonchalant. But I knew she could see right through me. I cleared my throat before continuing. "I haven't been able to stop thinking about it, to be honest."
She pulled away with a smirk before saying, "That's how I like it." I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine at her smug tone. But I tried to play it cool, taking another sip of my drink. "You really enjoy messing with me, don't you?" I asked, arching an eyebrow at her. "And you dont?" She shot back playfully. I chuckled softly at her question, unable to deny the truth. She had a way of getting under my skin, and I couldn't help but find it infuriatingly endearing.
"You know I do" I admitted with a sly smile. She sipped on her cocktail before speaking. "Hey... just so you know... my name isn't Jessica Quinn.." she said nonchalantly. My eyes widened slightly as I looked at her, bewildered. "I knew it!" I shouted happily. Thank god it was already loud so only a few people turned to look. That was enough to shut me up though. "I mean.. what is your real name then?" I asked looking up at her with wide eyes.
"Raven. Raven Valentine." She said with a smile as my face changed from amazement to pure shock. I had been crushing on a Valentine!?! The Valentine family was one of the richest families in the world! And here I was, a normal girl, talking to one of them! She laughed a bit before abrubtly changing the subject. "I don't know what you see in that guy.." she said with a huff. She was leaning back against the wall looking over at Calum.
I followed her lead and leaned back against the wall, taking a sip of my drink. I knew exactly who she was talking about, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt at the mention of him. "He can be charming when he wants to be" I said, trying to defend Calum. "Charm..." she repeated again skeptically.
I raised an eyebrow at her skeptical tone. I knew that Calum had his faults, but I still felt obligated to defend him. "He has his good qualities, you know. He can be... sweet, sometimes." I said, but even I could hear the uncertainty in my own voice. "I know you see the glances her throws other women... why do you stay if you know about his unfaithfulness...." she asked looking back at me. Her gaze was soft and so was her tone.
I paused, feeling a pang of guilt at her words. Deep down, I knew that she was right. Calum had always had a wandering eye, and I had caught him looking at other women more times than I cared to count. I sighed, feeling deflated. "It's just... comfortable, you know?" I said weakly, trying to justify my decision to stay with him.
"How though...."
