THE CHANGE THEY MADE

"You've changed," they say, with accusatory tone
"I want the old you back," a familiar moan
But what they don't see, what they refuse to know
Is the damage their words inflicted, making me go

From bright to broken, from bold to shy
Their hate comments cut deep, and I asked why
They stared at me blankly, no remorse in sight
Leaving me to wonder, lost in endless night

You made me hate me, with every cruel remark
You made me doubt myself, with every harsh embark
I changed because of you, because of your disdain
I changed to survive, to rise above the pain

But still they say, "You've changed"
As if I'm the one who's wrong, as if I'm to blame
But I know the truth, I know what they can't see
That their hate changed me, and it set me free.
