"Hi Marcel." Amberly said through the large building, her words echoing off the walls.

"Hey kid." Marcel replied, appearing at the top of the stairs. "What can I do for you?

"My history homework?" The ten year old girl asked.

The man laughed. "You know I can't do that Am. Last time I did your mother nearly killed me."

"But she didn't." Amberly reasoned, flopping down on a chair. "And besides, your like a gazillion years old you know all this stuff because you lived through it."

"I am not a gazillion years old." Marcel stated.

"Yeah, but your still older than everyone I know and have been alive since, like, the very foundation of New Orleans." Amberly remarked.

"Okay, fine." Marcel said, shaking his head and sitting down opposite Amberly. "So, why are you here?"

"Well, mum and dad are at work, as are Jo and Tommy, Etha is with her friends and Eli is with his girlfriend. He's supposed to be watching me but he kicked me out of the house, telling me to go elsewhere but really he just wants to spend time with his girlfriend, if you know what I mean." Amberly explained. "So I came here, because everyone else is busy and I know you don't have a job."

"I do have a job, a very important job." Marcel defended. "I have to look after all of New Orleans."

"I know, I know. Your the so called 'King of New Orleans', but really you just sit here all day and order everyone around, so I knew you'd be here and have nothing to do." Amberly responded.

"Okay, well....what do you want to do?" Marcel asked.

"I have homework from my teachers." Amberly mumbled.

"But..."

"I would much rather die than do it." Amberly told Marcel.

"Woah, too dramatic, dial it down." Marcel laughed. "So, what is it that you want to do instead then?"

Amberly stood up, walking around the room and looking at the paintings on the wall. "Who are they?" Amberly asked, pointing at the people in the paintings.

"They were my family." Marcel responded, looking at the painting and reminiscing about the people in them.

"They look nice." Amberly said, having always been curious about Marcel's unspoken family.

"To me, they were." Marcel said. "But many others who knew them would say otherwise."

"Oh. I'm sorry." Amberly muttered, realising that the topic of the people was still a very sore one. "Where are they now?"

"In different places across the world." Marcel informed Amberly.

"Why didn't people like them?" Amberly questioned.

"They were vampires. But not any vampire like myself. They were the Original Vampires." Marcel told Amberly.

"That sounds cool." Amberly said. "Why would people not like them because of that?"
