 Recap

It was almost six in the afternoon. I couldn’t leave her. Not her. It was now impossible to stay away. I stayed in the woods, still in my wolf form to keep an eye on her and avoid the temptation to go to her. I heard her going upstairs earlier; she was desperate for a bath, her thoughts so loud, as if screaming. A mix of fear, excitement, anger, surprise and confusion was overwhelming her as she burst into tears. Thankfully the water soothed her some, washing her tears away but when she went to bed, it all came back and she finally cried herself to sleep. I wanted to go to her, comfort her and let her know that everything is going to be ok but I couldn’t. I had to wait for her to remember. So I will be patient for as long as it takes. I can at least watch out for her from the shadows.

The day was perfect. Thursday morning, the sun is shining; it’s so warm it makes me wish I were at the beach. I am by the lake in a clear in the forest, splashing my feet in the cool water, giggling like a little child. I am wearing a pink dress, covered with flowers, purple and white, strapless and length just above the knee. The flowers around me are a symphony of pink, yellow, white, purple and blue, making me blend in with the scenery. And the trees…standing tall and majestic. I love this place! I could stay out here forever.

I can hear someone calling me. I can hear my name but it is so distant. Maybe I should go. But I like it here. Ten more minutes, only ten minutes. ‘Luna’ I hear again. Arg, I guess I’d better go. The voice is getting closer. I got up, took my sandals in my hands and started towards the house. I loved the feeling of the grass under my feet. I giggled as it tickled me. But I was so focused on the beauty of the forest that I got careless. I didn’t notice that the root of the tree next to me was above ground. My foot got stuck there and I fell forward with a loud thud, face first.

Ouch! That was graceful…! Thankfully, I had covered my head with my hands just in time. The rest of me? Not so lucky! My elbows were scraped and gashes on my knees were oozing blood. Yuck! God it hurts! I laid there on the ground feeling sore. My eyes stung and tears started falling freely, soaking my dress. I couldn’t stop as my sobs grew louder. It kinda made me feel better too. Crying has always been comforting for me. I tried to stand up and head back home but my knees hurt so much I couldn’t move. I felt so stupid for being so reckless. What if I got hurt way worse? Then what? And I felt the urge to scream, to call for my mother. I know, I’m a crybaby but I can’t help it. And then I heard something moving in the bushes. Moving fast too. I wanted to look around but I couldn’t. My sight was still blurry from my tears. I dried my tears with the back of my hands and looked again, hoping I would see clearly this time.

And I did. I was stunned and shocked when I realized what I was seeing. My mouth fell open when I saw a wolf in front of me. It was big and brown, with white streaks on its head and paws. It came slowly, crawling its way towards me. I was a bit scared but felt safe at the same time. The wolf lifted its head a little bit and placed it on my lap. From what I guessed, it was probably a female. She snuggled in my lap as her tail was wagging happily like a puppy. She somehow made me feel completely safe. She backed away and reached for my knees. They weren’t this bad but were still bleeding a bit. She licked my wounds, wiping the blood away and after a couple minutes the blood stopped dripping. It was like…she was healing me. She did the same for my elbows and when I looked at my wounds, they were already closing. I looked up again, meeting her warm brown eyes. Eyes that showed kindness, love and affection. Eyes that reminded me of my grandmother. If only she could see what I saw.

‘I’m right here my child’ I heard a familiar voice in my head, my grandmas’ voice. Wow…

‘Is this you nana?’ I asked truly amazed, still looking at those warm brown eyes ‘How can this be? Am I dreaming nana?’ I continued realizing how crazy it would actually be for it to be real. It must be a dream or I’m just loosing it.

‘No, my child. You are not dreaming. This is me’ she answered.
