The next day

Ava's POV

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and checked the time. It read 6.30 am so I got out of bed freshening up and putting on a simple jean skirt and black top. When I reached downstairs Sofia wasn't in yet so I started setting the place up for opening. As soon as I finished arranging all the ingredients for today's pastries...I heard the back door opening indicating that Sofia had come. She entered the kitchen and paused

"Woah....Amazing Ava is actually awake before 7.30. I was just about to ready the rolling pin" I rolled my eyes with a smile

"You know it's only on Mondays" she laughed and put on her apron "Anyway....the pastries for that order that called yesterday....I've finished it"

"Already??!! Ava are you a machine? You used just one night to bake all that? I know you love baking... but I keep getting reminded just how much you love baking"

"Of course....baking is the only thing I have left of my mother so I'm going to do it well to the best of my abilities."

"If you baked till late yesterday how are you awake so early today?" I kept silent and kept on mixing the batter then she smirked "Oh I see....you're waiting for the mysterious stranger. Aww my little Ava is all grown up now....you have a crush."

I rolled my eyes as i used the rolling pin to flatten the dough "Sofia....the chocolate chips they're not going to crush themselves" she giggled and took the bag of chocolate chips

"Sure sure evade the conversation....you know it's true" I continued kneading the dough as Sofia's words rung through my head....a crush? No way...I'm just curious about him that's all. Plus I don't even think I'm his type...at all. if he comes for his wallet today....will I even see him again? Suddenly my phone ringing broke me out of my thoughts. I removed it from my back pocket and answered the call

"Hello?" There was silence on the other end. Don't tell me it's....I was about to call his name when a weak voice came through

"Ava...is that you?" I didn't respond and the rolling pin fell from my hands onto the floor. Sofia turned to me worry etched on her face. 'What's wrong?' she mouthed but I couldn't even find my words "Ava...."

I cut him off "Mr. Martini....to what do I owe this call?" Sofia immediately frowned looking as if she wanted to punch someone

"Ava....I know I have wronged you but...I need your help. Can we forget what happened in the past?" Is he serious right now?! He must want something else he wouldn't make such an absurd request. I took a deep breath and decided to hear him out

"What do you want help with?"

"Your sister....she's been diagnosed with kidney failure and she needs another kidney. I would have given her mine but I'm not in the best of health so...." I should have known....he never changed, he will never change.

"You want me to donate my kidney to her? Right?" his silence on the line answered my question "I see....Well I'm sorry but I refuse. I need both my kidneys so you can find another donor if there's nothing else I'm ending the call. Goodbye Mr. Martini" I ended the call before he could talk again and placed the phone on the table.

I turned to Sofia and she suddenly pulled me into a hug. I smiled and hugged her back "I'm okay Sof...really. I expected nothing more from him anyway" she pulled back and stared at me seriously

"Are you pretending to be fine?" I shook my head

"I'm really fine....I've become numb to this so it doesn't hurt that much anymore. Let's forget about this and continue baking" Sofia huffed and went back to crushing the chocolate chips

"I knew I should have beaten up that bastard when I had the chance. Is he even human? Thank God you're no longer related to such a scumbag" Yeah, thank God indeed

"Anyway Sofia....were you able to pass your exams?" her face lit up

"Yeah! I passed with flying colors. They said we're graduating 2 weeks from now! I'm so glad that I've gone through that hellhole"

I chuckled "Hellhole? Really? Aren't you exaggerating just a little bit? "

She turned to me with a serious expression "Girl....anyone that has been through college will testify to the fact that that place is hell on earth. From multiple lectures, to numerous assignments and the projects...oh God how I'm glad it's over!"

I couldn't stop laughing "Yes Maám I'm proud of you Sof. Very soon you'll be an independent young woman" She smiled and latched onto my forearm rubbing her cheek on my arm

"Just like my bestfriend....the best in the whole world" I smiled and placed the last cookie on the baking tray. Sofia brought over the chocolate chips and sprinkled them on. I placed them in the oven and set the timer whilst Sofia placed all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. i entered the shop and turned the sign from closed to open.

"So when is your Romeo coming for his wallet?" Sofia asked with a teasing smile on her face. I sighed

"Miss Sanchez for the last time....He's not my anything he's just my customer"

"Mhmm just a customer huh?" she stared at me and I huffed

"Okay fine! Maybe...I want to know more about him" she leaned forward smiling widely

"What was that? I didn't hear you quite well" I narrowed my eyes at her

"I said.....I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ANTONIO RICCI!!! Happy?" she giggled looking at something behind me, what is she giggling at? I turned around only to be met with....oh God. Is it too late to bury myself in a hole....what kind of embarrassment is this??!!
