𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒍𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒈, followed closely by a continuous cracking noise. This was the holy rapture, you knew it. The god you prayed to never really acknowledged you, and had spiritually abandoned you ages ago.

The moment was quick and exploded with fire, and all you could do was squirm in your tube. The living vines holding you back had loosened. The ship's living commands could only focus on the essentials, and keeping you restrained and calm wasn't on the list.

You could feel the bustling energy of the ship on every surface of your body, the stress, the agitation, the perturbation in its core. It was panicking, trying to keep itself alive. This was the connection the worm gave you, you were able to feel a part of the hivemind inside of you.

You heard a 'kshh' hissing noise and a light thud outside of your pod, your breath was still fogging up your view. They could invent advanced tech, but not so advanced the windows still fogged up? Bullshit. You'd have a word with a mind flayer if you had the chance, this bullshit-window-business wasn't appropriate for the situation you were in.

You saw movement, crawling on the floor. Uh- james. What was that?

What was wiggling outside of your pod. Zombies? A zombie? Your literal worst nightmare since you were 6 years old? Are you kidding?

Then you saw it run. Holy fuck. Absolutely not. It left the hole punched in the wall, entirely leaving you alone in this burning room. You accepted your fate of dying alone in an alien ship fairly quickly.

𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒑𝒐𝒅 𝒈𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒔, shortly after you leaned back and got cozy, awaiting a fire-y death. The lid hissed, clicked, and whirred open. The stench outside of this room was of burning mucus and flesh. You placed your hands on the rim of the opening, lifting your shaky worn legs. You gently lifted one leg out at a time, and kept one hand on the pod for stability.

Your legs had been restrained in a straight propped up manner, like your body was on display in a coffin for a crime in the old west. Your knees wobbled just standing. You took in your surroundings, a pool of worms a few yards in front of you, your bag was placed next to your broken incubation pod. You slowly walked over to it, the blood rushed to your head and blotted your vision out. You paused your movements, waiting for the feeling to entirely dissipate.

There was the squiddy-body of a Mind Flayer. You knew that thing had a valuable gem on it, but it was like looking at a dead deflated squid at a fish market. It almost smelt of seafood too. Its head was smashed in, and its body laid splayed out. Its toes and hands were crumpled in a hard fist. You shielded your peripheral to your left with your hand, so you didn't have to look at it any longer.

Your bag was in perfect condition, nothing stolen, that you knew of. It was originally filled with some documents you were unable to read. and signed neatly with 𝒦𝑒𝓁𝑒𝓂𝓋𝑜𝓇 at the very bottom. The god, like a huge step above Jergal? no way. But you left the thought alone. It wasn't in your interest to pursue this contract or whatnot, that would invite inquisitors preying on your life. You couldn't trust anyone to translate it.

You picked your satchel up, hung the strap across your body and started stepping across the slick floors, avoiding every tiny patch of fire. Though, your shoes were fire-proof, thanks to your previous job. The thought of walking across hot ash was unappealing in steel-toed boots, that you hadn't entirely broken in yet. They hurt your heels but your foster dad's insisted on breaking them in before judging how they felt.

There was a worm nursery near your pod, you avoided the fuck out of it. You'd never once successfully investigated the pool without getting hurt. Out of the corner of your eye you could see dead maggots leaking onto the floor, and the pools glow start to dim, and dim. It almost hurt your heart to watch these Mind Flayer 'children' die. You were connected to it, but you knew better than to try to help these creatures.
