"Do you both realize that we don't know how to do this?"
Daniel and Lia broke away from their side conversation before turning to Lando, Charles, and Max. All three of them were holding surfboards under their arms and expectantly waiting for the other two to help them.
"That's part of the fun mate," Daniel smiled.
"What, us wiping out and falling flat on our faces?" Max asked sarcastically.
Lia nodded excitedly and picked up her own board from the sand. She motioned for them to follow her towards the water. The three men nervously looked at each other before joining.
While the rest of the drivers had decided to play football or walk the length of the beach, these five had decided to surf. Lia and Daniel had bonded over the ability to do so and were eager to get in.
Lando may have gotten a bit preemptively jealous and asked to join them. But he did not want to be the only one who didn't know what to do so he asked Carlos to come with. The man had laughed at him and wished him luck before going to join the football game. Thankfully Charles had taken pity and agreed in his place. Max simply got dragged into it because he did not want to run around all sweaty in the sand.
"We'll start off on the smaller waves," Daniel assured. Lia took the lead and was first in the water. She laid her body down on the board and started to paddle out.
Max saw Lando's eyes wander and stare before smacking the back of his head lightly. The boy whined and rubbed the spot before the rest of them moved to catch up with her.
Waves were starting to come in smaller bits so she stopped a ways away from them. Daniel escorted the other three close but stopped to give her enough room.
"Show them how it's done Lia."
She glanced back and smiled before paddling away as the the nearest wave came close. When she felt the wave take her board, she popped up to her feet quickly. Since it was small, she was only able to cruise on it for a little while but she did so expertly.
When she felt the wave die down, she gently broke away and dropped into the water. The guys clapped for her as she paddled her way back over to the line.
Daniel explained what she did while she sat upright on the board between Charles and Max. She ran a hand through her salty hair and adjusted her swimsuit top.
Charles seemed to be recoiling at her splashing. His arms were covered in goosebumps from the chilly water. She noticed and smiled deviously, lifting her hand to flick water at him.
He flinched and held out his hands, "Arrêt! Arrêt! S'il vous plaît!"
She laughed and complied to his request to stop. He mumbled in fake irritation to her but when she raised her hand to do it again, he stopped and tried to push his board away from her.
"Mate I can't even do that standing on the sand!" Max argued to Daniel. The two men went back and forth until Max was pushed by all of them to go try.
Lia pointed out a cluster of waves that were coming in for him. He cursed at them all before switching to lay on his stomach. He managed to paddle out to the wave well enough, but when he attempted to push himself up, the wave caught under his chest and flipped him to the right of the board.
"Yikes," Daniel cringed. They all had to stifle laughs as Max resurfaced and kicked himself back over to them.
"I hate you all," he grumbled as he lifted himself back on the board.
Lia smirked before paddling closer to Lando, who was now first in line to go. She waved a hand out to the water in front, "Your turn pretty boy."
He scoffed, "Just because you called me pretty doesn't mean I'm going to automatically do something."
