[READER] was sat down next to their old friend Mannequin Mark, who was sobbing with his head in his hands. He'd tried to sulk in the Red Ball Diner, but he was kicked out and banned for life for being too loud and disruptive. So, [READER} being his best friend, he went to [READER] next.
"An' he won't even stop drinkin' that damned Grey Stuff! Doesn't he know that stuff's bad for ya?!" Mark babbled while [READER] carefully ran a hand up and down his back (they'd already gotten 3 splinters from this...) and nodded along to his words. "I know, that stuff is very addicting. It'd be hard to drop. It must've been really hard, seeing all those emptied cans everywhere..." [READER] attempted to console Mark, but nothing seemed to work. They could understand why, divorcing someone you were married to for 6 years would be like a stab to the gut.
"I miss him, [READER]... He probably hates me... No, he does hate me. He hates my guts.." Mark took a deep, shaky sigh and glanced over at the bouquet of flowers that was spilled on the ground next to him. He bought them a few days ago. "I never even got him any flowers... I just wanted to fix things with him. But I was too late..." More tears streamed down his face, which he quickly wiped away. "It's okay to not be over him, Mark." [READER] mumbled in pity. "I know... But sure as hell he's over me, [READER]." Mark tilted his head back and took a few deep breaths. He'd stopped crying but a few wrong words and he'd probably start again.
"Yer a good friend, y'know?" He gave [READER] a sad smile. "...Always had my back through thick and thin, haven't ye'?" Mark chuckled, but his laughter transitioned into another sob pretty quickly. "I'm so sorry ye' have to deal with this, buddy," Mark leaned his chin against his hand and tipped his yellow construction hat down to shadow his eyes. "Dealin' with me sulkin' and all when I should be over this..." He spoke in a mournful tone. [READER] shook their head and pulled the mannequin man into a tight hug. He tensed up for a few seconds before slowly hugging them back. [READER] could smell sawdust on him but they put up with it. "No no no, don't be like that, Mark! Divorce is a big thing to deal with. It's ok to feel upset about it, I would feel upset too..."
"Ye promise yer not gonna get annoyed..?" Mark looked up from the ground and at [READER]. "Mhm! I promise. I'm really glad you went to me." Mark grinned widely and hugged [READER] tighter. "Yer the best, seriously." He truly meant it too. [READER] was one of the best people in his life, to him anyway. And Mark was very stubborn about these things (and about everything in general) so if someone disagreed he'd probably start an argument with them.
For a few minutes, the mannequin man and his friend sat there in silence. A content silence. A silence where they could convey how much they trusted and appreciated each other with just glances and smiles.
".. Thanks, pal."

"No problem, Mark."
