Otero's Flowers had been open for a few hours yet there wasn't anyone in the store, today was a rather slow day.
Amaris leaned against the counter, her head in her hands as she looked around the store bored out of her mind, she had already watered the flowers enough, and if she watered them again they would get flooded. She had also cleaned every window and surface she could clean at least twice already.
Her mind would start to wonder back to that game in nationals seven years ago, being reminded of how the trophy seemed to be dangled right in her reach, but when she took the leap to grab it the trophy was yanked away and she would fall all the way back down the hill she had spent so long climbing.
Before she could despair on the memory longer the bell on the door chimed indicating a costumer had entered the store.
Amaris would stand up straight quickly and put on her costumer service smile, looking over the counter to see who it may be, maybe Mrs Fernandez who lived a block down who always showed Amaris pictures of her lovely garden, or maybe that older gentleman, Paul who bought flowers for his wife monthly and would always tell stories about his daughter and two grandchildren.
But instead of any of the usual costumers it was a tall young well dressed man, though his back faced her so she couldn't see if she recognized him.
She would shrug and start fixing up the flower and gardening magazines that were on display on the counter, occasionally looking over to see what he was doing, she would notice he was now just standing and staring at some flowers, so she would get up and walk over, dusting off her hands on her cream colored apron and then leaned over to see what he was staring at.
"Those are Purple Spider Peonies, they're a somewhat rare sub species of peony. They're one of the best selling in the shop, second to those moth orchids." Amaris would chirp with a friendly smile, the man would jolt slightly at the unexpected voice and look down at her as she stood to his right.
"Well it makes sense why they're a best seller, they are both very beautiful." He would say with a charming smile.
She would nod then pause, looking at him with slightly narrowed eyes, he was familiar, though she hadn't seen him around town or in the shop... So where did she know him from..?
Then it struck her, this was Tōru Oikawa, the pro volleyball player from Japan that moved here sometime after his graduation.
He would smile knowingly as he watched her expression, though she would back off and would let him shop.
"Let me know if you need anymore help." She would say politely before hurrying back to the counter in shock and awe that she met one of the best volleyball players in her country, she controlled her excitement though, he wasn't just a celebrity he was a normal person too and deserved to be treated like one.
Tōru hummed in response as he started looking around the whole shop, she would start reading one of the flower magazines on the counter but kept an eye on him, admiring him from afar, thinking about all the videos she watched of him, from his high school games to when he played in the Olympics, he was a remarkable player and she was somewhat envious of him for being able to live her dream with such ease.
Finally he'd come up to the counter with one purple spider peony seed packet, a moth orchid seed packet, and a daffodil plant.
"Will this be all?" She would ask scanning all the items before turning and grabbing two medium planting pots and stacked one inside the other, then put the two seed packets in there with two feeding packets, handing them back to him.
"Yes that will be all."
"Alrighty, then your total is 12.30$" Amaris would state matter of factly, a small smile on her face as she opened the register and gave him back his change and his receipt.
