Lisa POV
"Girl, so what's the plan for today?" Nolan asked, plopping down beside me on the sofa. I took a can of beer from his hand.
"Don't know, bruh. What about you?" I asked, hoping to get some ideas.
"I was thinking clubbing," he said, looking at me. Now that's a good idea. Clubbing. Alcohol, my friend. "Now, that's what you call a—" I was interrupted by the doorbell ringing.
"Expecting someone?" he asked. I shook my head and got up to answer the door. Opening it, I was shocked to see him standing there. "David," I exhaled his name. "What are you doing here?"
He stood there in his office outfit: white shirt, black pants, black coat, and black shoes. "Lisa, how are you?" he asked, smiling.
"I'm good. Did you come here straight from the office?"
"Yes, I did. I needed some signatures and approval for something," he replied. I widened the door for him to enter.
I closed the door and walked behind him to the living room. "Nolan, this is David Jenkins. He's, um, you know, there at the company when I'm not and helps me out. He keeps the board members in their place when I'm not around. David, this is Nolan, my best friend," I said, introducing them.
I looked back at Nolan, who was staring at David with dreamy eyes. Dreamy eyes?
"Nolan?" I called out to him. His body shook, and then he looked at me.
"So, he's working in your office, in your place?" he asked.
David chuckled. "You could say that. I get cases, assign them to our best lawyers, and make reports," he said, sitting down on the sofa. I sat opposite him, beside Nolan.
"So, what signatures do you need?" I asked. "Oh, yeah. I interviewed some people and approved their resumes. I need your signature on these documents to make them official employees of Graham Co. LTD." David replied.
I nodded, grabbed the files he took out from his bag, and went through the documents, signing each one. "Here you go, David. When will the new employees be joining the company?" I asked, handing the file back to him.
"They will be joining in two days, which means on Monday," he replied.
"Well, I should leave now. I have a lot of work to do since the owner here is having fun and not joining the company," he said mockingly as he stood up.
"Hey, I find that offensive. I've told you before that I will take my position when I finish my studies. I will take my owner's position. Okay?" I said, glaring at him.
"Okay, okay, sorry. My bad, boss. Can't have my future boss mad at me now, can we, Nolan?" he said, smirking and looking at Nolan.
"Yes, yes, of course," Nolan replied, stuttering.
Hmm, stuttering, huh? Someone's got a crush. I stood up, gave David a hug, and said my goodbyes.
"So, stuttering, huh?" I teased Nolan.
"Shut up, and take a rest. We have to go clubbing," he huffed, turning back to watch TV.
Rachel POV
Rachel stood in front of the full-length mirror, adjusting the straps of her emerald green dress. She sighed as she noticed the slight curve of her stomach pressing against the fabric. Tugging at the dress, she tried to smooth it out, but the stubborn bulge remained.
Her body had changed over the years. Once lean and rectangular, pregnancy had added curves she couldn't seem to lose, despite her best efforts. Walking and eating healthier hadn't brought back her pre-baby shape, but it was a reminder of the life she had brought into the world.
