Suddenly, the sound of running horses came from behind. When they turned to look, they saw soldiers—some on horses and some on foot. A sudden silence fell over the people, as if no living soul were there. Every civilian knelt with their heads deeply bowed. Confused by this reaction, Anni asked an old woman, “What’s happening here?”

“The royal prince is coming,” the old woman replied.“The crown prince or the Prince of War, the third prince,” the woman added.“What do you mean by the Prince of War?” Dela asked curiously“Don’t you know? He is the Prince of War. Some call him the War Machine,” the old woman explained. Dela and Anni exchanged worried looks.

"“The War Machine?” they echoed.

“Yes, because he has killed more than a thousand people and fought his first war at the age of ten,” the old woman said. Dela began to wonder if this prince was human or a killing machine.“Now bow your heads, the prince is coming,” the old lady said in a low voice. Dela and Anni were about to bow when their eyes landed on a child standing in the middle of the road. Dela ran towards the child.“Dela!” Anni shouted. Dela caught the child in one arm and threw a stone at the approaching horse to stop it. She closed her eyes tightly, a habit she had when she was scared. She heard the clash of metal and slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was a silver sword pointed at her neck.
She looked down and saw the small child trembling in her arms. Dela’s eyes softened at the sight. Despite being stoic and practical, she had a soft heart.

“How dare you attack the crown prince?” a soldier’s rough voice demanded.“I didn’t attack the prince. I was just protecting the child,” Dela said, her voice steady and unafraid. She stood up and walked towards the old lady, handing her the child.“The prince’s safety was compromised by your actions!” another voice said, sending a shiver down Dela’s spine. She searched for the owner of the strong, rough voice.

“Isn’t it the crown prince’s duty to protect his people?”
