The early risers chirping, morning sun beams peeking through the clouds, birds about their morning rituals, a gentle cool breeze, golden light everywhere, covering natural and man-made creations, full of beauty and magic, filled with the promise of a new beginning. Eventually, Cyril woke up, putting all his strength (both mental and physical) into dragging himself out of the comfort of his bed.
He didn't want to do it, but he already promised. As prideful as he is, he would never go back on a promise. Looking into the mirror, he saw that his mid-length honey hair had become a messy nest upon his head. Dark circles had rested below his sapphire eyes. Cyril sighed deeply, he is about to have his whole life thrown upside down. He walked out of his room the same time his sister did.
"Geez, your hair is horrible!" She exclaimed with a wicked smile on her face. Cyril flipped her off and continued to walk to the dining hall.
"Hey baby, how did you sleep?" Psyche asked with that warm motherly tone that always seemed to calm him down. Cyril shrugged, it was no different than any other night, horrible. He sat down on his seat while Voluptas sat next to him. Their father then sat down across from her. With no words between them, they all began eating.
"Cyril, fix your posture please." Cupid called out sternly.
"Yeah, you look like the letter 'c'." Vol said, snickering at her own unfunny joke. Cyril rolled his eyes, ignoring her comments. He was playing with his egg, watching it jiggle around. All the food on his plate looked insanely unappetising, poisoned even. It morphed into something that appeared absolutely disgusting, enough to make someone be sick. On that note, Cyril abruptly sat up and ran to the bathroom, as all his stomach's contents spilled out. He heard frantic footsteps behind him. A reassuring hand was placed on his back, rubbing up and down.
"Are you feeling better, darling?" His mother asked, now accompanying him on the floor. All he could see in her eyes was concern. Cyril threw all his weight into her arms, craving for that comfort only a mother could provide. Tears streamed vigorously down his face. Psyche had no idea where this overload of emotions came from, but nevertheless she tightly wrapped her arms around her youngest, not talking.
After a couple of minutes, Cyril sniffed, raising his head out of her shoulder. Psyche immediately brought her hands to his reddened cheeks, stroking them gently.
"It's alright, you'll be perfectly fine, nothing will hurt you as long as i'm here, okay?" She uttered, looking at him. As Cyril's breath soon became softer and more controlled , he nodded. Psyche stood up slowly, bringing him up with her. He splashed cold water on his face and walked with his mother to his room. Whilst walking there, Psyche continued to whisper sweet nothings in his ear.
Cyril, bloodshot eyes and shaky hands, sat on his bed.
"Just stay here and rest, I'll bring you some water, do you want anything to eat?" Psyche asked. He shook his head, she sighed, rubbing her hand on his head before standing up and walking out. Cyril sighed, once again, throwing himself against his bed.
