As I awake, blinking away the remnants of sleep, I'm greeted by a soft blue light coming from my laptop screen. I squint at it, momentarily confused, before realizing that I must have left it on again.
Typical.
Rubbing my eyes, I focus on the screen and see a paused game. Ah, right, that game—I had completely forgotten I was in the middle of playing it. Without much thought, I reach out and push the play button.
The screen comes to life with the familiar loading screen, accompanied by a theme song that fills the room with its melodic tune. It's surprisingly pleasant, and I find myself nodding along unconsciously as the game progresses.
As the opening credits roll, my attention is drawn to the title: "The Villainess." I chuckle softly to myself, contemplating the irony of the name. Villainess—such a strikingly evil name. I wonder briefly why someone who is supposed to be bad would have a name as pretty as Kiera.
A fondness creeps into my smile as I think of Kiera, the name with such a nice warmth that feels strangely comforting. Maybe there's more to this game than meets the eye, I muse, as I settle back into the familiar rhythm of gameplay, letting the storyline unfold before me.
The music continues to play softly in the background, intertwining with my thoughts and memories. And as I navigate through the game, I find myself appreciating the beauty of its narrative, the complexity of its characters, and the unexpected connections that seem to echo faintly in the recesses of my mind.
Oh well.
As I pulled the pack of energy drinks out of my bag, the crinkle of the plastic seemed to echo around the room.
I needed to finish the game before morning.
