Wednesday's POV:
The evening had been filled with joy and celebration, a sense of togetherness that made our small dorm room feel like a sanctuary. Ellie's first steps had been a milestone that brought tears of pride and happiness to everyone's eyes. Now, as the night deepened and the twins were fast asleep, Enid and I began our usual post-dinner routine: cleaning up.
The clinking of dishes and the hum of the water running in the sink created a gentle background noise. Enid stood beside me, drying the plates I handed her, her smile still lingering from the evening's events.
"Can you believe how far Ellie has come?" Enid asked, her voice filled with wonder.
"I know," I replied, glancing at her with a soft smile. "She's growing up so fast. It feels surreal."
Enid nodded, her eyes distant as she recalled the memories of Ellie's first steps. "I can't wait to see what else she'll achieve."
We continued our work in comfortable silence, the bond between us stronger than ever. Enid's presence was a soothing balm to the chaos that had once defined our lives. As we finished the last of the dishes, I wiped my hands on a towel and glanced around the room.
"Everything's clean. Let's check on the twins before we head to bed," I suggested, feeling a sense of calm wash over me.
Enid agreed, and we quietly made our way to the nursery. Ellie was fast asleep, her tiny body curled up under a blanket. Ethan's crib, however, was empty.
"Wednesday, where's Ethan?" Enid's voice was laced with sudden panic.
I frowned, my heart rate quickening as I scanned the room. "He's not here. He must have crawled out. Let's check the rest of the dorm."
We moved quickly, searching every nook and cranny. But Ethan was nowhere to be found. The initial worry turned into a gnawing fear, and I could see the same dread mirrored in Enid's eyes.
"We have to find him," she said, her voice trembling. "He can't be far."
We rushed out of the dorm room, calling Ethan's name as we scoured the hallways and common areas. Minutes turned into an hour, then two. Our desperation grew with each passing moment. We knocked on every door, enlisting the help of our neighbors and friends, but no one had seen Ethan.
"Where could he be?" Enid's voice cracked, tears streaming down her face.
I pulled her into a tight embrace, trying to remain composed despite the fear gripping my own heart. "We'll find him, Enid. We have to."
As the third hour approached, a thought struck me. "Yoko and Divina. They were here earlier. Maybe they've seen him."
Enid nodded, her face pale but determined. We raced to Yoko and Divina's dorm room, our hearts pounding with hope and fear. Yoko opened the door, her expression turning to one of concern as she saw our frantic faces.
"Wednesday, Enid, what's wrong?" she asked.
"Ethan's missing," I explained quickly. "We can't find him anywhere."
Yoko's eyes widened, and she immediately ushered us inside. "Divina! Have you seen Ethan?"
Divina appeared from the other room, her face lighting up with a warm smile. "Ethan? Oh, he's here. He walked over a while ago. We thought you knew."
The wave of relief that washed over us was indescribable. Enid collapsed into a chair, her body shaking with a mixture of exhaustion and gratitude.
"He walked here?" Enid asked, her voice a whisper of disbelief.
