**Enid's POV:**
The weeks following Willow's innocent question about a sibling had been a tumultuous whirlwind of emotions. Despite our attempts to maintain a sense of normalcy for the children, the weight of uncertainty about our family's future hung heavy over our home. Wednesday had been my steadfast support, gently nudging me toward considering alternative paths to expanding our family, while I grappled with fear and resignation.
One crisp autumn morning, as I sipped my coffee in the kitchen while Ethan and Ellie played outside with Willow, my phone rang, startling me from my thoughts. Glancing at the caller ID, I saw it was Dr. Chang's office. My heart skipped a beat, nerves jangling as I answered the call.
"Hello, this is Enid," I said, my voice betraying my apprehension.
"Good morning, Enid. This is Dr. Chang's assistant. I'm calling with an important update regarding your recent test results."
My breath caught in my throat, anticipation and dread warring within me. "Yes?" I managed to say, willing myself to stay calm.
"It appears there was a mistake in the initial interpretation of your test results," the assistant continued carefully. "After further review and consultation with Dr. Chang, we've discovered that you are still within the viable range for fertility treatments."
The words echoed in my mind, disbelief and hope crashing together like waves in a storm. "I... I'm still...?" I stammered, struggling to process the sudden shift in our circumstances.
"Yes, Enid," the assistant confirmed gently. "We apologize for any confusion or distress this may have caused. Dr. Chang would like to schedule a follow-up appointment with you and Wednesday to discuss your options moving forward, including starting an IVF treatment plan."
My hands trembled as I held the phone, tears springing to my eyes. "Thank you," I whispered hoarsely, overwhelmed with a flood of emotions.
"We understand this is a lot to take in," the assistant said empathetically. "Would you like to schedule the appointment now?"
I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. "Yes, please. As soon as possible."
After confirming the appointment details, I hung up the phone, my mind reeling with the sudden reversal of fortune. Emotions surged within me—relief, gratitude, and a cautious optimism that dared to hope for the future we had once feared was lost.
**Wednesday's POV:**
When I saw Enid's face as she hung up the phone, tears streaming down her cheeks, my heart leaped with a mixture of hope and disbelief. "Enid, what is it?" I asked urgently, crossing the kitchen to her side.
She turned to me, her eyes shining with unshed tears and a tremulous smile gracing her lips. "Wednesday... it was a mistake. The test results... I'm still fertile."
A wave of relief washed over me, mingled with an overwhelming rush of emotions. "Enid, that's incredible!" I exclaimed, pulling her into a tight embrace. "We thought..."
"I know," she murmured, her voice choked with emotion. "I thought... But they want us to come in for an appointment. To discuss IVF."
IVF. The acronym that had once represented a distant hope, now suddenly within our grasp. "Let's do it," I said firmly, my heart pounding with renewed determination. "Let's explore every option."
Enid nodded, a tearful smile spreading across her face. "Yes. Let's."
As we held each other close, the weight of uncertainty lifted, replaced by a newfound sense of purpose and possibility. Our journey toward expanding our family had taken an unexpected turn, but now, armed with renewed hope and the support of our medical team, we were ready to face it head-on.
