**Enid's POV:**
Life had settled into a comfortable routine in our little dorm room with Ellie and Ethan now approaching their 7th month. They were growing so fast, each day bringing new discoveries and challenges. Ethan had become quite the explorer, constantly reaching for toys and babbling in his own little language of curiosity. Ellie, on the other hand, had developed a serene demeanor, observing the world with wide eyes that mirrored my own thoughtful nature.
One evening, after putting the twins to bed, I found myself sitting at our small dining table, lost in thought as I glanced through some notes for my upcoming exams. The soft hum of the baby monitor filled the room, a constant reminder of my responsibilities as a mother.
Wednesday, ever perceptive, noticed my distant expression as she entered the room, carrying a steaming mug of tea. "Everything okay, love?" she asked gently, placing the mug in front of me and sitting down beside me.
I sighed, feeling a mixture of exhaustion and longing. "I miss having time for just us," I admitted quietly, not wanting to burden her.
She reached out, taking my hand in hers. "I know, Enid. It's been a whirlwind with the twins. But they won't be this little forever."
"I just... I worry sometimes," I confessed, my voice barely above a whisper. "What if we lose ourselves in this, in them?"
Wednesday leaned closer, her eyes searching mine with understanding. "We won't. We're in this together, remember?"
I nodded, feeling reassured yet unable to shake off the weight of my thoughts. "I think... I think I need a break. Just a little time to breathe."
She squeezed my hand gently. "We can ask Yoko and Divina to watch them for a few hours this weekend. It's okay to need time for ourselves, Enid."
Relief washed over me at her suggestion, grateful that she understood. "Thank you, Wednesday. Sometimes I feel like I'm losing sight of who I am outside of being a mother."
"You're Enid," she said firmly, her voice filled with conviction. "And you're an amazing mother. But you're also so much more."
Her words warmed my heart, reminding me of the strength we found in each other. "I love you," I murmured, leaning in to kiss her softly.
"I love you too," she whispered against my lips, her touch grounding me in the present moment.
---
The weekend arrived with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. Yoko and Divina had graciously agreed to watch Ellie and Ethan for a few hours, giving Wednesday and me a chance to reconnect away from our parental duties. As we left our dorm room, a sense of freedom tinged with guilt settled over me. Would the twins be okay without us?
"We'll be back soon," Wednesday reassured me, sensing my unease as we walked across campus hand in hand.
The familiar hustle and bustle of university life surrounded us, but for once, I felt disconnected from it all. My mind kept drifting back to Ellie and Ethan, their little faces and innocent smiles haunting me with both joy and worry.
"We're doing the right thing," Wednesday said softly, sensing my turmoil.
I nodded, trying to push aside my anxieties as we made our way to a quiet café on the edge of campus. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and the cozy ambiance offered a welcome respite from the outside world.
We settled into a corner booth, and for a while, we simply sat in comfortable silence, sipping our drinks and stealing glances at each other. It felt strange yet liberating to be away from the constant demands of parenthood, even if just for a few hours.
