The first day of high school was, in one word, hellish. Avery got lost three times on the way to one class, and she didn't share any classes with Ciara. Luckily, she did share history, AP world literature, and geometry with Arren, who helped her through the day. She didn't see Ciara at all until the bus ride home, but she seemed busy, and Avery didn't want to disturb her. Instead, she sat with Arren, who seemed to never run out of things to talk about. Finally, the bus pulled to a stop down the street from A.Z. Fell & Co., and the twins got off the bus together. Ciara was the first to speak, excitement clear in her voice.

"Today has been the best day ever! I officially love high school and everything about it," Ciara exclaimed. Avery didn't share her enthusiasm.

"I doubt that I'll make it through the year alive," Avery lamented as they walked into the book shop. Ciara scoffed.

"We're immortal. High school's not going to kill you."

"You never know..."

"Come on, lighten up. It won't be all that terrible, you'll see!" Ciara punched her sister playfully on the shoulder. Avery responded by body-slamming Ciara. Before they could fully devolve into squabbling, though, they saw Aziraphale rushing towards them, his face full of emotion, followed by a much calmer Crowley. Avery immediately stepped away from Ciara. Aziraphale beamed.

"Hello, dears! How was your very first day of high school," Aziraphale asked.

"It was great! I met someone who I really, really like-" Ciara started to answer, but was cut off by Avery.

"Oh, someone you really, really like? Sounds to me like you've got a crush," Avery teased. Ciara bristled.

"I do not!" She retorted, her voice defensive. Crowley snorted.

"It took Angel and I 3,000 years to figure out our feelings. If she has got a crush, she won't realise it for at least another few," Crowley joked. Aziraphale looked sheepish.

"Yes, I suppose we did take quite a while... remember, it's alright to take your time, dot." Ciara smiled.

"Thanks, Papa."

"Don't take too much time, though. Mortals die quickly," Crowley interjected. Ciara groaned.

"Can we please talk about something else now?"

"Abdhow was your day, button," Aziraphale asked, turning to his other daughter. Avery sighed.

"It was... a lot. I made a friend, but-" she started, only to be interrupted by Crowley.

"Oh, you've made a friend? That's marvelous! You haven't had one of those in ages!" Avery gritted her teeth.

"Thanks, dad," she said sarcastically. "Anyway, as I was saying, I made a friend, but it was still an awful day. I don't have any classes with Ciara, I got lost at least a million times, and I think my physics teacher hates me already because I pointed out something she said that was wrong."

"That's my girl," Crowley said with a proud grin. Aziraphale gave him a stern look. Crowley smiled back at him. Aziraphale turned back to Avery.

"Well, at least you made a friend. I'm proud of you, button." Avery nodded, smiling slightly.

"Yeah, I guess so."
