A/N: sorry for the short chapter, I kinda forgot about this for a while, I just wanted to publish something so you all would know I was alive. Please let me know what you think in the comments!
----Ciara sat in the very back of the bus, in the seat too small for two people. She was worried about Avery. Her sister has never been very confident, and she wasn't a good liar, either. She fidgeted with her ring, turning it around on her finger. She focused on the way the metal caught the light, using it to get her mind off of her sister. The ring had been a gift from Aziraphale, a silver clauda ring which Ciara had always worn pointing inwards. She'd never felt the need to open herself up. Besides, now that she thought of it, not being human was probably a red flag to most people.
A voice from the seat in front of her brought her out of her thoughts and back to reality. A girl with short, curly hair was leaning over the back of the seat, facing Ciara.
"Hey, whatcha got there," The girl asked, looking at Ciara's ring. Ciara looked up, startled.
"Oh, uh, this?" She held up the ring. The girl nodded. "It's just a claddagh ring," she said, slipping it back on her finger, not noticing that she had accidentally pointed it outwards.
"What's a claddagh ring?" Said the girl, seeming confused. Ciara thought about it for a moment, trying to find a way to summarize it that wouldn't seem too lovey-dovey.
"Well..." She said at last, "It's a heart-shaped ring that's used to indicate if someone wants a partner or not. Pointing in means they don't, pointing out means they do." The girl nodded her understanding.
"That's pretty cool. I'm Luka, by the way." She reached out her hand to Ciara. Ciara looked at it for a few moments, confused. Luka laughed. "You're supposed to shake my hand."
"Ah, sorry!" Ciara replied, reaching up and shaking Luka's hand. Her hand was warm, and her grip was firm, but soft. Ciara realized she didn't really want to let go, but she did anyway, not wanting to come off as strange. Luka seemed sweet. It wouldn't hurt to get to know her, right? Ciara couldn't go on being lonely for the rest of high school. She needed to talk to someone. It just so happened that someone was quite possibly the sweetest ray of sunshine she had ever met, excluding her father, of course.
