Isabella had started to notice that Jasper often seemed tired, and he sometimes disappeared for long periods. One day, her curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to find out more about her enigmatic friend.

The school day began like any other. Isabella met Jasper by the lockers, where he gave her a tired but genuine smile.

"Morning, Bella," he said, stifling a yawn.

"Hey, Jasper. You look exhausted," Isabella noted with concern.

"Yeah, just a long night. Nothing new," Jasper replied, brushing it off.

The first few classes flew by, and before Isabella knew it, it was lunchtime. She found Jasper in their usual spot in the cafeteria. As they ate, she decided to ask him more about his life.

"Jasper, you’ve always seemed a bit... secretive. What do you do after school?" Isabella asked, trying to sound casual.

Jasper hesitated, looking around to make sure no one was listening. "I work. Two jobs, actually. One at a convenience store and another at a fast-food place."

Isabella's eyes widened. "Two jobs? No wonder you're always so tired."

"Yeah, it’s not easy, but I’ve got to help out at home. My mom works full-time, and I have to take care of my younger siblings," Jasper explained, his voice quiet.

"Wow, that’s a lot of responsibility," Isabella said, feeling a mixture of admiration and sadness for him.

"Yeah, it is. That’s why I smoke. It helps with the stress," Jasper admitted, looking away.

Isabella reached out and placed a hand on his. "I understand. Just... be careful, okay?"

Jasper nodded, a grateful look in his eyes. "Thanks, Bella. I appreciate it."

#### After School

After school, Isabella and Jasper decided to spend some time at the park before he had to head to work. They walked along the paths, talking about lighter topics to lift their spirits.

"Do you ever get a break?" Isabella asked, watching him as he skillfully flipped a coin in the air and caught it.

"Not really. I mean, I get weekends off from the convenience store, but I still have shifts at the fast-food place," Jasper replied.

Isabella frowned. "You need a day off to just relax."

Jasper chuckled. "Tell that to my boss. But yeah, it would be nice."

As they continued walking, they saw some kids playing soccer and decided to join in. The game was fun and carefree, allowing them both to forget their worries for a while. When it was time for Jasper to leave for work, Isabella felt a pang of sadness.

"I'll see you tomorrow, Bella," Jasper said, giving her a quick hug.

"Take care, Jasper," Isabella replied, watching him walk away.
