Some people see the world as half empty, some see it as half full. Right about now we were halfway to California, whether what we find there be good or bad.
"30 on 2 please." I said, handing the lady behind the counter money. A truck stop in Wolbach, Nebraska is where I was standing. Halfway.
I walked back to Miles' truck and put the pump in the gas tank. I looked around at my surroundings, everything was pitch black except for the faint blink of a streetlight about a mile out.
"Haylen, wake up." I gently shook him. "It's your turn to drive."
"What time is it?" He asked, so I pulled out my phone.
"4:30." I've been driving since 12, so the boys could rest up before they had to take over the following day.
"Are we making good time?" Haylen asked, as I take the pump out of the tank.
"I think so considering we left yesterday afternoon." I sighed and walked around to the back passenger side.
Haylen took off and headed back onto the Interstate. The road was a little crowded but Haylen managed to keep a steady pace.
"Wake me up at 7 and I'll take over again." I smiled at my friend.
"Deal." He laughed and switched on the radio:
If you like pina coladas
And gettin' caught in the-
Haylen quickly changed the station. "Sorry Ivy." He said sadly.
"It's okay, maybe this wasn't my Dads fault." I closed my eyes with a soft smile on my face.
"Ivy, you have to get up..." A voice whispered around me.
"Wake up."
I shot awake started, I ended up in the Passenger seat. Miles was driving.
"Morning sleeping beauty." Miles smiled, looking at me.
"Ivy, I'm sorry I didn't wake you up at 7. Miles said to let you sleep." Haylen answered.
"That's okay." I said softly, looking out the window.
WELCOME TO CALIFORNIA
"Well boys, looks like we made it." I said with a smile.
"Finally." Ollie said, waking up.
About 4 hours later we finally arrived in Los Angeles, the city of angels.
"Looks trashy." Miles stated, matter of factly.
"Try New York." Haylen said, rolling his eyes.
"No thanks you"
We drove up to a fence about 3 miles away from the Hollywood Sign.
"We're walking from here." Haylen stated, opening up the back passenger door.
I got out of the truck as well, slinging my satchel over my shoulders. Blue-Devil clung to my wrist.
The Climb to the top of the mountain was a fever dream. We were all full of adrenaline and didn't know exactly what to expect when we got to the sign.
"Woe to all depraved souls." Haylen whispered the Greek translation.
The H on the Hollywood sign opened revealing steep stairs. Miles went first followed by me then Haylen and Ollie.
The sound of water crashing against the shore was a God in black robes waiting for us.
"You're not dead." He said strictly.
