this is a place for me to share some of my thoughts with you before you continue reading this book. what's also very important is that i will be sharing some additional disclaimers just in case there are triggering themes that i didn't warn you about initially.

this part of the book is going to detail a brief period of time in which haley is feeling burnout. i'm sure a lot of us have experienced this, whether it's academic burnout, burnout in relationships/friendships, or overall feeling inadequate. if this is a sensitive subject for you, and you'd prefer not to read about this, i'd suggest finding a more lighthearted work, because you shouldn't risk your mental health/wellbeing to read a book. i also want to let you know that if burnout is something you are experiencing now, you're not alone.

if you read my author's notes at the end of every chapter, you may remember me pointing out that haley's ex-boyfriend, noah, and rodrick are painfully similar, and i don't think it would do haley justice to break up with one crappy guy only to end up with a clone of him just for the sake of the romance. i wanted to give rodrick a chance to mature and become a better person for someone he cares about. i completely understand that this is not something that canon rodrick would do, and if we're being honest, he'd probably remain a man-child for the rest of his life. what i'm trying to say is that some things in this character arc are going to seem unfitting for rodrick's personality (but really, any sort of growth or development is strange for rodrick).

finally, i'd like to thank everyone who's been reading this book and has been giving it attention. i literally love you for that, it means so much to me, and i thoroughly enjoy reading your guys' comments.

SIDE NOTE: if you've read the bell jar by sylvia plath, you might be able to understand the "fig tree" reference in the title of this act.
