━━━ "SO, HOW DID THIS RODRICK business even come about?" Lisbeth says after a long and grueling school day, dropping her heavy backpack on her well-made bed.

Lisbeth Wright's room could not emulate Lisbeth any more than it already does. The elegance is nothing short of ornate and completely overstated, with velvet embroidered curtains framing a tall glass door that led to the balcony, a king-sized bed with a white tulle canopy, and an expensive-looking Norse rug under the mahogany desk.

Greek busts -- no doubt actually purchase from Greece -- sit on the desk next to beautifully carved vases with bouquets of gardenias and roses in them, likely given to her from her many suitors. It's no secret that Lisbeth is exceptionally pretty, so those who aren't intimidated by her follow her around like useless puppies, hoping to woo her with gifts. Lisbeth has no intention to go out with any of them, but she takes the gifts anyway.

Haley once pointed out that doing so is quite the ethical dilemma. Why take their offerings and get their hopes up if you have no interest in them?

But obviously, morals have no place in Lisbeth Wright's world.

Besides, she would reply, if they weren't morons who can't take a hint, I wouldn't be getting gifts anymore. Is it really my problem, or is it theirs?

On the far left, adjacent to the bathroom, was Lisbeth's large walk-in closet, which was decked with designer clothing, -- primarily pink and red -- including purses, shoes, and crisply ironed blazers.

Haley tries not to flinch at Lisbeth's sudden question. She really has considered telling Lisbeth the truth about the fake-dating arrangement, and it wasn't ever a big deal. Haley just hadn't told her because she just didn't want to make a whole event out of something that would likely never last.

But as the arrangement has progressed, it's become increasingly more difficult to tell her. It's not some deep, dark, incriminating secret, but Lisbeth will just question why Haley didn't tell her sooner, and Haley literally could not tell her the reason why.

So to save herself an awkward conversation about why she'd dodged telling her best friend the truth, she's just waiting to get it over with. It's not really a conversation they ever need to have; it's not like this relationship is going to last. Haley and Rodrick are far from soulmates.

All Haley says in response to her friend's question is, "What do you mean?" in hopes that Lisbeth might let it go.

"You just started dating him out of nowhere," Lisbeth elaborates, giving her a weird look and kicking off her Prada flats. "You didn't even talk to him or interact with him as far as I know." Lisbeth cocks her head at Haley. "Is there something I don't know?"

Haley swallows nervously and shakes her head. "No!" she says a little too quickly. She regains her composure before continuing. "No, it's not weird or anything. It's just, we moved in and my parents wanted me to talk to him so we could kind of get the feel of the neighborhood. The Heffleys have lived there for a long time." The lie sits sourly on her tongue. "And you know, he's not that bad."
