I couldn't believe that all it took was one hit for her to change her mind about him.

"Is it okay if I come to you? Jake is gone and I just don't feel like staying here."

"Of course. If you need me to pick you up, I'd be happy to do so."

"Thanks so much, Sarah."

I stand up from my bed and begin rushing down the steps and past my own mom.

I'm going to kill that jerk

As I rushed down the steps and out the door, I could hear my mom calling out after me in the kitchen, but I had blocked her voice out from being in such a rush.

I showed up to her house within minutes, texting her that I had arrived.

A moment after, Trisha had opened and closed the door behind her before making her down towards my car.

I watched as she got inside and pulled me in close to her embrace.

"Thank you so much for being here by my side,
Sarah." She says into my shoulder.

My grasp around my best friend tightens a bit.

"I'll always be here for you."

"I'm such a jerk." Trish said through her tears, pulling back from the hug.

"Don't be. If anyone's a jerk, it's your boyfriend."

"Ex-boyfriend."

"You and Jake are no longer a thing?"

Trish shakes her head in response, wiping away at her tears.

"No, I had to get away from that fast."

I take a step closer to Trish, resting a warm hand on her shoulder.

"I want what's best for you, and for you to be happy. You're too good for him."

A weak smile appears on my friend's lips, nodding her head in agreement.

"Enough talk about boys, let's catch up." She said through a sniffle.

I put the car in reverse and begin driving in the direction of my home.

The two of us plop down on the couch after making our way inside the living room once we arrived.

My mom was nowhere in sight, so I assumed to myself she had gone off elsewhere as she figured something was wrong when I rushed out.

"Do you want something to drink? Are you hungry?" I offer her.

"Some food does sound nice. I need to get my mind off things." She places a hand on her stomach. "Besides, I haven't eaten much lately."

I believed Trish. She did look awfully thin, which made my concerns for her well-being go higher.

"I'll order us some burgers and shakes." I say with a smile before opening up my phone and adding some fries to the cart to order to be delivered.

"Ugh, that all sounds so good right now. I can't even remember having greasy fast food."

I raised an eyebrow, knowing Trish was always a fast food junkie like me.

I had a feeling it had something to do with Jake, but didn't ask any questions to avoid reminding her of the hurt and trauma he's been putting her through.
