Chapter 2

"Lord Tyris-"

"Aurora," I interjected, "Don't call me Lord Tyris. My name is Nick. You're not beneath me."

"Sorry," she said.

"No need," I replied, "Now, to what do I owe the pleasure, Miss Aurora?"

"I couldn't help but notice today that you're nothing like Father describes," she said sheepishly.

"Is that so?" I asked, "And how is that you see me, Miss?"

"Father sees you as arrogant and selfish," she said, "A rebel looking to take Soularis for yourself. I don't see that, though. You have the confidence and wit and charm of a leader while also having the kindness and passion to fight for what you believe in."

"And that appealed to you?" I asked.

"What truly appealed to me," she said, "was that I saw the flash across your eyes today. The Heartlink."

"That's crazy," I replied in a falsely nonchalant way, "I noticed it too, across yours."

"That means we're-"

"Heartmates," I interjected.

"I knew there was something different about you," she said.

"And I you," I replied, "After all, you've got a very different aura in comparison to your father."

I suddenly felt very attracted to Aurora, more so than when I was in the Meeting Room. We slowly approached one another, her hands finding their way just under my arms as I placed my hands on her hips.

"Your touch," she said with a gasp, "It's what I've been looking for, for so long now."

"I should think so," I replied, "We've both been looking for a while, it would seem."

"That would explain why I got the urge to come here," she said, "Why I'm suddenly so attracted to a man that I've only just met."

"It would explain it," I replied, "After all, I've never been more attracted to a lady than I am to you."

"Then, since we're Heartmates," Aurora said, "What should I do?"

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Do I stay with Father or break the tradition?" she asked, "It's a very hard decision to have to make."

"Stay with your father until you feel it's safe to leave," I said, "After that, I'm all yours."

"Can I be yours for tonight?" she asked, "I don't wanna leave you."

"You absolutely can be mine for the night," I said, kissing her on the lips, "and if you want, from this night on, we can become a couple of our own. After all, that's usually what Heartmates do."

"I'd like that," she replied, smiling at me before we started kissing again.

"For now, why don't we head to bed?" I asked, "No bloodsucking."

"Oh, no," she said, "but the bed seems like the perfect place to be right now."

Aurora and I spent some alone time together, and once our alone time was over, she laid her head on my chest and we were both asleep in seconds, having finally found each other.

The next morning, however, I was met with the need of an explanation.

"Well, Percy was right," I said, "Aurora is my Heartmate."

"And what will Elanis think of this?" Percy asked.

"What does it matter?" Elizabeth asked, "He finally found his Heartmate!"
