"He's doing fine, just a strain in his shoulder." Y/n softly whispered. "You're being hard on him..."

"And how do you know that?" Hayao hummed.

She blinked a few times before bluntly stating the obvious. "I reviewed the missed calls, Mr. Sato."

"Oh." His voice shriveled.

"You shouldn't expect much, Mr. Sato. Ken... he's a very special guy. But you must understand there's only so much he can handle." She breathed out, impatiently waiting for Hayao's response.

"You always know what to say, N/n."

"Five years is a long time, Mr. Sato." She reminisced years employed as an assistant until her soft face hardened. "He doesn't like this. Not one bit."

Hayao's elongated sigh irritated the hell out of Y/n. He'll never truly accept the hatred Ken holds for Kaiju. It just won't click in his mind. "I know." No, he doesn't.

"I have to head out. Have a good night, sir." She hung up before Hayao could even greet back.

The world felt cold, almost condensed. She was frozen in time; frozen in her thoughts as she silently stood in the corner of Ken's modern bathroom. It wasn't a secret to Y/n how she found this job draining... emotionally draining.

The many nights she had to leave Ken on the floor as he replayed videos of his mother. Added onto the times she'd find him in the middle of the living room ice bathing himself while critiquing his every game as she was about to leave. Was it all a lie? Their friendship? Simply manipulated by the hands of his father...?

Guilt was a tidal wave.

And it was heading straight to her heart.

Without any warning, she strode out of the bathroom heading straight to Ken. The woman was displeased to find the man curled over with his head slumped down. She gave an exasperated sigh before she walked over, placing a hand on his back, and dragging it in soothing circles. "You did a good job, Mr. Ken."

"Hey..." He picked up his head looking at her face. "One step closer to Ken."

"One step." She nodded her head. The sensation of Kenji flexing his back muscles gave her the slightest bit of joy to know he was alive. "I'll fix something up for you—" Before she was to step back, she felt his hand tug on her wrist, beckoning her not to leave.

"Stay." He trailed off.

"I'm not going anywhere, Mr. Ken. Never."
