From, Where Ever is Next
Dearest, Rosie Posie,
If you're reading this you either are nosey and wanted to see me pour my heart out on paper, or I died. Either is very likely. Perhaps, they are both true. You read this, and then I die.
I am writing this as if I am dead, that is the whole point of a goodbye letter.
So, Rosie, I want to say thank you, first. Thank you for more than keeping me company through this hell, you made this horrifying experience manageable. You walked me through everything and made it less intimidating. When Jax's name was picked and I volunteered, I knew I'd have you and that eased the hurt. Even now, staring down the barrel of a gun, I'm happy with my choice, even if no one else is.
But, my thanks extend more than the past few weeks, it goes right back to when Jessica met you and you became an honorary Hamm.
Thankfully not a biological Hamm, the name Rosemary Blue Hamm would be child abuse.
You wove your way into our family, we all grew to love you. You made every person in the family laugh until they cried, you never forgot birthdays, you always showed up and for that, you were unwaveringly kind. Since you won you have snuck so many expensive things into the house that my mother tried to ban you, but that never would've lasted an hour. I can speak for every Hamm—even Xavier, who I will say hi to for you—nothing you could do would ever make us hate you, even not being able to save me.
When you go back, let them care about you, because they will want to. Let people look after you, you can't always do everything on your own. You can't give and give and never take because you'll burn yourself out.
You may not realise, but you've saved me. Even when people were losing hope at the mill, you never did, you took a torch and looked for me into the night, and you gave me two more years than I was meant to have. In those two years, I got to accept who I was and fall in love.
You have so many people around you Rosie, people that would do anything for you if you let them.
Finnick, being someone I would like to highlight now that you can't cut me off. And you better keep reading because this is my dying wish.
Finnick is fucking obsessed with you, he finds you in every room, he talks about you like you hang the stars, and the smile he has when he sees you is sappy and kind of gross. He's also gorgeous, and funny—a plus. You two fit together, so, if the time comes when you two can venture into something more than friends, don't be scared. You deserve love, and I know in all my wisdom, that Finnick will love you like you deserve. Sometimes, in life, you need to risk heartbreak for happiness. And Finnick is a good risk, so, if there's the opportunity, snatch Fishy Finnick up.
Please know this is not your fault, this is just how the cookie crumbled.
Look after yourself and let yourself be loved, Rosie Posie. You deserve happiness.
– Elio
Rosie poured over each word, occasionally having to read over sentences multiple times because Elio was a notoriously poor speller. His handwriting was worse than Orion's, but that was more so due to the fact he only had one hand, or that's what the boy blamed it on.
