Michele Sindona, Roberto Calvi, Licio Gelli had people murdered who were investigating their cases.
In 1979 alone:
On March 29, 1979, in Milan, Judge Emilio Alessandrini was shot at a red light in his car by five men.
On March 20, 1979, in Rome, Mino Pecorelli, a member of the P2 lodge suspected of treason, was shot twice in the mouth while getting into his car.
On July 11, 1979, in Milan, the solicitor Giorgio Ambrosoli was assassinated in the street with four bullets.
On July 13, 1979, in Rome, Lieutenant-Colonel Antonio Varisco, head of the Roman security services, was killed in his car with his driver by four shots from a sawed-off shotgun.
On July 21, 1979, in Palermo, the investigator Boris Giuliano was shot six times in a crowded café. No one had seen anything.
In October 1979, in Milan, Enrico Cuccia, managing director of Mediobanca, a public investment bank, miraculously escaped a bomb attack.
On March 9, 1979, in Rome, Cardinal Jean-Marie Villot died of natural causes.
On August 2, 1980, the Bologna train station was bombed. Many dead and wounded.
On June 17, 1982, in Milan, Graziella Corrocher, Roberto Calvi's secretary, "committed suicide" from the 4th floor window of the Banco Ambrosiano headquarters.
On June 18, 1982, Roberto Calvi "committed suicide" under a bridge in London.
On October 2, 1982, in Milan, Giuseppe Dellacha, director of the Banco Ambrosiano, "committed suicide" from a window of the bank.
On December 23, 1984, the Naples-Milan train was bombed, on Mafia orders, to divert attention from Sicily and blame the Red Brigades. 17 dead, 267 injured.
Michele Sindona was poisoned in his cell on March 22, 1986, while serving a sentence for the murder of Giorgio Ambrosoli.
In 1992, judges Giovani Falcone and his wife Francesca, then Paolo Borsellino, and their police and bodyguards, were murdered by Mafia bombers.
Licio Gelli died a free man in his bed on November 15, 2015, at the age of 96.
Giulio Andreotti, senator for life, died in Rome on May 6, 2013 at the age of 94.
