Shoot, I'm gonna be late
I quickly jumped around, trying to put the stubborn shoe on.
"KAYLA, YOU'RE GONNA BE LATE FOR SCHOOL," Mom yelled.
How I would love to be late, I thought to myself.
I was out the door in no time, yelling goodbye to my brother. I ran to the bus stop, making the bus driver gawk at me for running like a maniac.
Thank God nobody in this neighbourhood ever comes out, I thought, sighing internally.
I look around the bus, masking my face well enough to not be questioned. Today's the first day of grade 7, a totally great new start to the teen years. I was only excited to see everybody from last year, mostly Rae, Misa and Lena.
Please, please, pleaseeeee let this day be okay.
I hesitantly walked up the stairs, seemingly taking forever to place one foot in front of the other.
"KAYLAAAAAAAAAA" I winced, not exactly how I was planning the day to go.
"Hey Rae," I said, getting crushed in an enormous hug. "How have you been?" I asked her, putting in the effort to peel her of of me. "Mostly okay" Rae replied, "I'm in Mrs Aydon's class, what 'bout u?" She was literally jumping up and down at this point. "Here I was thinking you were the oldest," I said, laughing. "And yes, I'm in her class. Maybe we could be deskmates." Rae squealed in delight. I rolled my eyes, holding back laughter. This girl could be such a little kid sometimes. How could she not be likeable?
Maybe this day won't be too bad.
