A huff left Jiwon while she fanned herself, trying to cool herself from the blaring summer heat. Today was one of the few hot days in Seoul and Jiwon was on her way to the cafe Areum worked at. She hoped to get some work done and study for the exams.
"Hi Jiwon!" Areum greeted her when she saw her open the door. Jiwon greeted her back with a cheerful 'hi' and a wide beam. There weren't any customers standing in line so Jiwon walked right up to the desk, looking at the variety of beverages. She couldn't help but feel tempted to buy all of them.
"What would you like to order?" Areum asked the standard question with a smile, watching as Jiwon stood there pondering about it.
"Hm... Do you have any recommendations?" Jiwon finally asked and lowered her head to look at her friend, not able to make up her mind.
"Well, I like the lemon refresher but I think you'd like the strawberry one," Areum stated and Jiwon nodded in agreement, already reaching in her pocket for her credit card.
"That sounds so good, I'll take that, thanks," Jiwon said with a smile and held her credit card out for Areum to take. Areum jotted down some things on the screen in front of her before grabbing the credit card.
"Thank you, you can just sit down and I'll come over with it," Areum said and Jiwon nodded, thanking her again before turning around to find a table where she could hopefully sit in peace and study.
After a few minutes, Areum put down the drink on the table and Jiwon showed her a smile before Areum went back behind the desk. Jiwon grabbed the glass, looking at the vibrant drink before taking a sip from the straw, letting contented hum and immediately going back for another sip.
She was able to stay concentrated for around an hour, ending up buying another strawberry refresher, having finished the first one too quickly in her own opinion. It was her best friend sitting on the chair on the other side of the table that pulled her out of her focused state, making Jiwon flinch a bit.
"Hey girl," Seonhee greeted, a wide grin on her face, already making Jiwon suspicious of why.
"What's up?" Jiwon asked nonetheless.
"So, you know how Areum's turning 20 in a week?" Seonhee started, Jiwon humming in acknowledgement. "And we're having a party for her, so why don't you invite Jungwon?"
Eyes widening at the thought of not only meeting Jungwon but also being probably black out drunk in front of him, Jiwon let out a 'what', it being a little louder than she would've liked it to be.
"You know, it would be fun and he could invite his friends too," Seonhee added with a wink.
"I guess I could ask him..." Jiwon trailed off and before Seonhee could celebrate too much, Jiwon continued, "but! He probably can't, it's literally in a week."
"Just ask him," Seonhee encouraged, brushing off her doubt before standing up, "hey, what would you recommend?"
"Oh, um, I really like the strawberry refresher," Jiwon answered, looking up from her phone where she had already opened the chat with Jungwon and leaning back in her chair.
