Almost 200 years later...Maylin laughed as she flew through the sky.
It was December, her favorite time of the year, and she was ecstatic. Seeing the children of the world in such a joyful state brought warmth to her heart and a smile to her face. Perhaps, ever since the day she technically "died," she had never felt such joy until then.Maylin loved the feeling of the frigid December winds tangling up her red hair and tossing around her old winter garments. She felt free.
Landing in an open field, Maylin stripped off her gloves, shoving them deep into her pockets. This was her favorite part of being the so-called "winter spirit;" actually getting to make the snow.
Within her icy-tipped fingers Maylin formed a ball of snow from her magic. It was a perfect snowball, of course, swirled with intricate patterns that almost seemed embedded into it.
With a giant leap, Maylin sent the snowball flying into the air. It seemed to fly up forever and ever until it finally stopped for a moment. The little ball hovered in the air, waiting.
Maylin chuckled as she reached into the sky, feeling the icy magic run through her veins and into her core, and, just like that, the snowball shattered.
This wasn't a sad sight, however. No, quite the opposite. Snow began dispersing in all directions, small flakes falling and catching the glint of the moon's face. Maylin stood for a moment simply staring into the sky, feeling the delicate flakes fall onto her face.
She had made snow plenty of times and tonight certainly wasn't her last, but she stood and enjoyed the feeling of it falling onto her face.
A small feeling settled into the pit of her stomach. The one where she longed to have a normal Christmas like any other family or individual would. Decorating a tree, eating Christmas dinners... and whatever else the humans did to celebrate Christmas. Maylin shoved the thought away as she always did.
Maybe one day.
The snow, what was once a small but steady stream before, began to fall in heaps. This would be another heavy snowfall year. One the weatherman couldn't predict and people would be talking about for ages afterward.
Part of Maylin wanted to go into the closest town and see how everything looked. The other part knew she had too many other stops to make tonight but... just a few minutes couldn't hurt. Right?

Maylin walked through the streets of Lakeside, Illinoi, as she watched the snow fall. It had started to cover the sidewalks and roofs of buildings, just as she knew it would. It always did.
Somehow her feet carried her to a small neighborhood with newly built houses. Maylin gazed in awe at them. Some were two stories with only a simple wreath on the door while others, smaller homes, were decorated to the max with colorful lights and the blow up decorations you would see in the store.
A blanket of snow that seemed to grow thicker by the second covered the road and the sidewalks, adding a sort of magic to the quaint place.
Even though her hands were still shoved deep into her pockets, magic flowed through them. As she walked her magic seemed to carry everywhere, swirling a pattern of frost onto a window here and maybe even making a snowman or two there, something the cautious girl normally wouldn't do.
