It's been a few weeks since that date, and the silence from her side has been deafening. I can't help but wonder if I did something wrong. "Maybe she's just busy, you know?" Jack says, trying to be reassuring.
"Yeah, maybe. But what if I did fuck it up? Shit."
"Hey, hey man, calm down. I don't think you fucked up. From what you told me, you both had an amazing night. Maybe she just forgot," he says as we walk out of the locker room.
"I'll talk to you later, man," he says, patting my shoulder. "Hey, man, I'm not done yet," I call after him, but he just walks away with a smirk.
"Asshole," I whisper, starting to head to the exit.
"Sorry, my fault," I suddenly hear. I turn around and there she is, looking as beautiful as ever. "Oh hey," I stammer.
"I'm sorry I haven't texted you. I've been really busy lately. Then I had to go to another state for some stuff and didn't get much time to text you. I hope you'll forgive me," she says, sounding genuinely apologetic.
"It's okay, I get it. So, how have you been?" I ask, trying to keep it casual. Her smile lights up, making me smile too.
"Good, busy, so I didn't get much time to relax. But the busy point is over now, so I have more free time. And if the offer for a second date is still up, I'd like to take it," she says, her eyes hopeful.
"Sure," I whisper, barely able to contain my excitement. "You busy tonight?" she asks. "No, what do you want to do?"
"I was thinking of just hanging out at my place. You still owe me a drink, so..." she trails off. "Sure, yeah. What time do I need to be there?" I ask, both of us smiling.
"There you are, Hailee. I've been looking all over for you," Pete says as he approaches.
"Yeah, I'm here. Just bumped into Noah and wanted to ask how he was doing," she says, turning back to me.
"Meet me at mine at 6?" she whispers, so her father wouldn't hear.
"Sure," I whisper back with a smile before she walks off with her dad.
"Are you going, Noah?" Pete asks.
"Yeah, sorry, I've got some things to take care of. But I'll see you Monday. Bye, Hailee," I say, and we exchange one last smile before I leave.

It's a few minutes before 6 when I ring the bell. Not a minute later, she opens the door.
"Well, I said six, and it's 5:57," she says, both of us smiling.
"Sorry, do you want me to wait till six and then ring the bell again? 'Cause I could do that, you know," I say as seriously as possible.
"No, I'm kidding. Come in," she says, and I walk in as she closes the door behind me. "So what do you have planned for tonight?" I ask.
"I'm not the greatest cook, so I was thinking of just ordering something and watching a movie as we talk some more. Just chill. After all, it's Friday for some reason, right?" she says, and we both chuckle.
"True," I say as we take a seat on the couch. "You hungry? 'Cause I'm kinda starving. I haven't eaten anything since, like, I don't even remember," I say, and she laughs.
"Yeah, I'm pretty hungry," she says, so I grab my phone and open the delivery app.
"What do you want to eat?" I ask, scrolling through it.
"I'm kinda craving pizza. You?" she suggests.
"Girl, can you read my mind, or did you just stalk me and look up everything about me?" I ask, looking at her.
