I rummage through my closet trying to find the perfect dress for my birthday but, unfortunately I couldn't find the perfect fit that would match the theme for this evening.
In my Familia, everytime someone turns the age of nineteen a small celebration is held at our Family's Restaurant, The Casa De Leon. It's sort of an old family tradition that we celebrate till this day because in our family once you turn nineteen it means you get to join the family affairs.
No, not eighteen. Because the older family members think that age is too.. fresh? Or rather too immature for them, so they decided nineteen would work better.
"Are you done Aster? I'm getting bored here." Scarlett asked to see if I was done while she checked her nails out.
"Just wait a second! I can't find anything to wear!" I yelled back.
"You're slower than a snai-" Someone suddenly knocked at the door.
"Be a dear and open the door will you?!" I grumbled, tossing random pieces of clothes that I didn't like at the corner.
Scarlett walked towards the door and opened it to see one of the maids standing in front of her with a box on her hand. A pink ribbon sat on the center of the mysterious package.
"Oh who's this for? What's in there?" Scarlett asked.
"This package was delivered for miss Aster. It just arrived this afternoon." The maid said handing the package to Scarlett. She left and Scarlett closed the door.
"Aster this package is for you!" The red head Scarlett yelled for Aster to come out of the closet.
I peeked behind the door "Package?" My eyebrows furrowed in confusion "I didn't order anything."
"Maybe someone sent you a gift since it's your birthday" Scarlett said, suggestively.
"I doubt." I stepped out of the closet and took the package from Scarlett.
I examined the box closely before removing the ribbon and letting it fall down the floor.
Slowly opening the box I saw a black silky fabric. I took it out and carefully unfolded it. The fabric cascaded down revealing a beautiful short black dress a slit on the side, and ruffles.
"Holy... Who could've possibly send this to me..?" I murmured to myself as I graze my hand through the smooth silky texture of the dress..
"Ooooh you probably have a secret admirer" Scarlett said in a teasing tone.
"Or a stalker." I countered back as Scarlett rolled her eyes. "Its literally my size." I added finding it a bit creepy. I thought about it for a second before deciding to wear the dress. "Why are you just standing there? Help me get ready you carrot head "
"Alright, alright..." Scarlett rolled her eyes playfully.
After an hour or so I managed to get ready on time as me and Scarlett rushed down the stairs. I walked towards the car while putting on my heel as fast as I could nearly tripping over something invisible. We finally arrived at The Casa De Leon on time before the party started.
I got out of the car, Scarlett trailing close behind me. At the entrance I saw my parents and my brother, standing and waiting for me dressed in a formal clothing.
A small part of me shatters as they barely acknowledge my presence.
Seeing the faces of my parents as they gushed over my brother like it's his birthday stung me a bit. It hurts to know that no matter what I do I'll always be covered by his shadow.
Scarlett placed a hand on my shoulder and reassured me with a known look as we walked towards the entrance following my family as they entered the place without me.
