One day had passed since Chaeyoung arrived in Japan, and as soon as the sun rose, Somi woke her up to start working. The day before, the woman had given her a break because she was sympathetic to the girl's situation, who was very affected, but she knew she couldn't do much, as Haru and Kimi would want to see the girl being useful.

Somi briefly explained to the girl how things worked: they did domestic service for the Myoui family and in return received a place to live and food. Kimi and Haru were not friendly, but neither were they usually aggressive unless they noticed something wrong.

Most of the time, they acted as if their "employees" didn't exist, and Koreans were also forbidden to speak to or get closer than necessary to Mina. Somi preferred to live this way and, over time, Chaeyoung would get used to this outcast life.

That day, Somi would take Chaeyoung to clean Mina's room, taking advantage of Haru taking the girl on another morning outing.

So, Mina and Haru left, and Somi and Chaeyoung went to the girl's room.

Upon entering that place, Chaeyoung was enchanted; she had never been in such a place in her life. The room was large, half the size of her former house in Korea, with light pink walls, a very large and probably comfortable bed, and it had many, many toys of all kinds, especially dolls and stuffed animals.

That room was any girl's dream.

"Chaeyoung, stay here a minute, I forgot to bring the cloth to dust the furniture," Somi said, and Chaeyoung just nodded. "Don't touch anything until I come back."

"Okay," Chaeyoung replied, but as soon as Somi left the room with the door ajar, her childish curiosity and naivety spoke louder, and she was carried away by the charm of that beautiful room.
She took one of many dolls in her hands and hugged it. For a moment, she even forgot everything that was happening. After placing the doll back where it was, she walked around the room, trying to observe every detail, and then noticed a golden music box with a ballerina on top of the dresser. She took the object and turned the small side key, making Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" play and the ballerina spin in that small space. Chaeyoung liked it so much that she even smiled a little. She had never seen anything like it.

But the smile didn't last long, as Kimi was passing by the hall and heard the sound of the music box that Mina had received from Haru when she started ballet, and at the same moment she entered the room, slamming the door hard against the wall, scaring the girl who jumped back.

Like a hurricane, Kimi advanced toward the girl, who completely shrank. The Japanese woman pushed Chaeyoung away from Mina's dresser, making her fall sitting, while cursing the girl in Japanese.

Somi, hearing what had happened, quickly arrived at the scene.

"Izumi, take care of this girl! Don't take your eyes off her!" Kimi shouted as she saw her old maid arrive there. "I never want to see her dirty hands on Mina's belongings again!" She looked at Chaeyoung with a mix of hatred and contempt; the girl just lowered her head, holding back tears.

"It won't happen again, ma'am, I guarantee it," Somi responded timidly, head down.

"I hope not, because if it happens again, you and she will only drink water for three days!" Kimi said before leaving the room, still quite upset.
