Hello, how are you? I want to let you know that "Powerful" is entering its final stretch, with only five chapters left until the end.
Just a curiosity, in case someone doesn't know: at the time of the story (40s), the capital of China was Nanjing and not Beijing as it is today.
I ask everyone who is enjoying the fic to share it with other ONCEs and Michaeng fans, and also check out my other works, both fanfiction and original. I write in almost all genres, from comedy to drama.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the chapter.
...........................................
The days without Inbok were torturous, both psychologically and physically. Without the boy, Chaeyoung was taking on additional duties, as Somi had crying fits every time she had to water the garden or take care of the flowers, which reminded her of her son.
That's why Chaeyoung was exhausted that night, and as soon as she lay down in her bed, she fell asleep.
Some time passed when she woke up startled by a noise at the window. She turned over and tried to go back to sleep, probably thinking it was the strong wind that day.
The noise continued, and the young woman sat up in her bed. There was something more out there.
She got up, walked to the window, and opened a small crack to peek outside, receiving a great and unimaginable surprise.
Inbok was there and broke into a wide smile upon seeing a bit of Chaeyoung's face.
She could hardly believe what was before her eyes. She opened the window slowly to avoid making any noise, and jumped out with the young man's help.
"Inbok! I can't believe it..." She said, very emotional.
"Come with me, please," he whispered, and led the young woman out of the Myoui's yard using the hole he had made in the fence that protected the house.
Once on the street, the two exchanged a very strong hug, and to the young man's surprise, Chaeyoung kissed him on the cheek, leaving him a bit embarrassed. She was so happy that she didn't even think about what she was doing.
"I thought I'd never see you again," Chaeyoung said, her voice choked with emotion, and she even wiped away the tears of happiness that ran down her face.
Even with the street lighting somewhat dim, Chaeyoung noticed that he was still quite injured. His face had some bruises, as did his arms. She felt such anger towards the wretched coward who had done this to him, but at least her friend was alive.
"As they say: a bad weed never dies, Chaeyoung," the young man joked. "How's my mother?"
"She's in pretty bad shape, I can't lie." Inbok felt bad hearing that. He couldn't stop thinking about his mother and how she must be suffering through all this, but he thought the best person to know he was still alive and relatively well was Chaeyoung and not Somi. "But, how? I never imagined you could have survived all that."
"Not a single Japanese will kill me," he responded. "It turns out that son of a bitch threw me into the trunk of the car..."

Inbok was unconscious in the trunk. He was badly beaten from the punches and kicks he had received from Aoki. His nose was bleeding, and his left eye was swollen and bruised, with more bruises on his forehead and face.
He opened his eyes with difficulty, barely able to open the left one due to the swelling. His entire body ached, especially his ribs.
He had no idea what was happening or where he was being taken, but he knew he would have to fight to survive, even in these adverse conditions.
