"Man... that meeting sure did a number on me." I sighed as me and the other council members made our way back to the office. Several students jumped in fright when they saw us; maybe it was because we walked like a horde of zombies.
Back at the meeting, I stuttered so much in front of others. If this keeps up, could I even call myself a reliable president?
"Duh! It's because the seniors keep dumping all of their work on us! Did you see the smug look on their faces?!" Jay ranted, both of his hands on his head. "Well, one thing's for sure: we can't do anything about it," Mel said as she opened the door and let us go inside first.
"This is an abuse of power! They were put in those positions to help us! I swear if I see their faces later I'll—"
"You can't fight them, Jay, or else the whole student body will see us as violent people," I said, patting his back to try to calm him down. But the meeting's result was not just my problem and the preparation for the school's event; rather, it's how I would be able to keep an eye on Mau for the time being.
"Ugh, I'll just sleep until my next class--"
"How about we cheer ourselves up by getting Jabee? My treat!" Fern, the treasurer, cheerfully said. Instantly, the idea of sleeping until his next class left Jay's mind upon hearing Fern. As we made our way to the school gates, a crowd of people standing at the side of the soccer field caught our eye.
Since it was just like any other hot day, I found it rather unusual for many people to stand there under the sun without any umbrella. "Is there a game scheduled today?" I asked Jay, pointing to the crowd starting to gather around the field. "I don't think so. The last official match we had with another school ended last week," Jay replied, looking up from his phone to see what I was pointing at.
"I bet handsome players are practicing right now!" Fern laughed, making Mel roll her eyes at her in response. "But isn't practice not allowed during lunchtime?" I asked them. Since this was of course a clear violation of the rules, it was only correct for the members of the student council to check what was going on.
I approached a fox who was busy cheering and asked, "Hello, may I know what's going on?"
She turned to me and excitedly said, "There's a bet going on with the new guy and Hugo! If the new guy wins, they'll leave him alone. And if Hugo wins, the new guy has to be his servant for a week!" Hearing this, I couldn't help but furrow my brows as I turned to look at the two players running around the field.
One red fox and... a new guy...
"SONIC?!" When I saw the familiar thick glasses and striking green eyes, I wasn't able to stop myself from screaming in horror—almost using his stage. I think Mau heard me scream his name because he was immediately knocked down by the red fox after he got distracted a bit to look for me.
I saw Mau wince in pain, and I immediately ran over, bumping into the red fox to get to Mau quickly. "Sonic! Are you okay?!" I exclaimed as I knelt beside him to check his leg. Thankfully, it was just a sprain, and his leg wasn't broken. "Hugo, did you steal the ball from the PE teacher's office again?" I heard Jay ask from behind me.
Hugo laughed, "What? No way! I asked for permission."
"Uh-huh, it's lunchtime smartass. Here's a violation slip; don't forget to turn it in to the disciplinary office!" Mel said with a big smile as she quickly wrote up a slip and recorded it in her notebook before she gave him the slip.
"Ugh, you council people need to mind your own business," Hugo groaned.
Before he walked away, I saw him smirk at Mau before saying, "Hey dumbass, don't forget the bet." But right as he began to walk away again, Mel gave him another slip, "Hugo, the bet is not going to happen. So stop making it happen." Seeing her threatening smile immediately made him run away along with his goons.
