-Y/N-
It had been almost two weeks of pretending to be coupled with Taehyung in front of Jungkook. The whole charade was taking a toll on me, but the thought of Jungkook's jealousy somehow made it worthwhile. There was one incident where Jungkook, in a rare show of emotion, grabbed Taehyung's collar, his eyes blazing with a mix of anger and hurt. It was unfair, wasn't it? After all, Jungkook had forfeited his place in my life long ago. I handled the situation wisely, diffusing the tension before it escalated.
However, what hurt the most was the chasm that had formed between Jimin and Jungkook. Once inseparable friends, they now barely acknowledged each other. Jimin treated Jungkook not as a friend but merely as the CEO of the company where he worked. Jungkook, for his part, tried to bridge the gap, but Jimin consistently excused himself, leaving Jungkook looking lost and forlorn.
But yeah, right, he deserved it, and maybe even more from me.
I was washing the dishes after dinner when my phone rang. It was my mom. Again. I had been avoiding her calls and texts because I was in no mood to entertain her constant attempts to set me up on blind dates. This was probably her tenth call today, and I figured I couldn't ignore her anymore.
With a resigned sigh, I put the phone on speaker while I continued washing the dishes.
"What kind of daughter ignores her mother's calls? That's really bad, Y/N!" she yelled, and I silently braced myself for the onslaught.
"Sorry," I mumbled, trying to sound contrite.
"You have a date tomorrow, and you have to go," she declared, her voice brooking no argument.
"Wait, what!?" I turned off the sink tap and pulled off the rubber gloves, shock coursing through me. "You didn't even ask me before setting that date."
"I'll send you the location. Be there at 10 a.m." She cut the call before I could protest further.
Panic surged through me. I rushed into my bedroom, frantically throwing dresses out of the closet in search of something suitable for a morning date. I was stuck. My mother's reputation was on the line, and I couldn't back out now.
_____The next morning, I found myself nervously standing outside a quaint little café. I had dressed in a light, floral dress that I hoped was appropriate for the occasion. My mind was a whirl of anxious thoughts. Who was this guy my mom had set me up with? Would he be another awkward date that I'd have to endure?
Taking a deep breath, I pushed open the café door and stepped inside. The warm, aromatic scent of freshly brewed coffee greeted me, momentarily calming my nerves. I scanned the room, looking for a familiar face. And then, to my utter shock, I saw Taehyung sitting at a corner table, casually flipping through a magazine.
My heart skipped a beat. What was he doing here?
As if sensing my presence, Taehyung looked up and smiled, waving me over. I walked towards him in a daze, my mind racing with confusion and questions.
"Taehyung? What are you doing here?" I asked, sliding into the seat opposite him.
He chuckled softly. "I was about to ask you the same thing. But I think I know the answer. Our moms set this up."
Realization dawned on me. "Wait, you knew about this?"
He nodded, looking a bit sheepish. "Yeah, my mom told me. She's really happy about it. I didn't tell you because I thought it might make things awkward. I wanted to surprise you."
I let out a long breath, the initial shock wearing off. "Well, consider me surprised. I had no idea."
He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Look, I know this is unexpected, but maybe it's not such a bad idea. We've been pretending to be a couple anyway. Maybe we should keep the pretending and stuff."
I pondered his words. It wasn't a terrible idea. Taehyung was kind, and funny, and we already had a good rapport. Besides, continuing our act might just keep Jungkook at bay. And if it made our moms happy, why not?
"Alright," I said slowly. "Let's give it a try. And let's keep it up."
Taehyung's smile widened. "Deal. Let's start with breakfast, shall we?"
As we ate, the initial awkwardness faded, and we found ourselves laughing and talking comfortably. Taehyung and I discussed the car advertisement that we were working on. We discovered we had more in common than we'd thought, and by the end of the date, I felt genuinely happy.
Well, now I think, Taehyung totally isn't how he showed himself when we first met.
