Here's the next part of Chapter 1:

Maya's eyes widened as she felt the memory drawing her closer. It was like a siren's call, irresistible and powerful. She took a step forward, her heart pounding in her chest.

Axel's hand on her arm stopped her. "Wait," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We need to be careful. We don't know what we're dealing with."

Maya hesitated, torn between the pull of the memory and Axel's warning. But her curiosity won out. She had to know what this memory was, and what it held.

She pulled her arm free and took another step forward. The memory enveloped her, like a warm embrace. And suddenly, she was somewhere else.

She was standing in a bright, sunlit room, filled with the scent of flowers and the sound of laughter. A little girl was playing on the floor, her dark hair curly and wild. Maya's heart skipped a beat as she realized who the girl was.

It was her, Maya, as a child. And the memory was coming back to her, like a floodgate opening

The memory rushed back, a torrent of images and emotions. Maya's childhood, her family, her life before the Great Forgetting. It was all coming back to her, like a puzzle pieces falling into place.

She saw her parents, smiling and happy, holding her close. She saw her friends, laughing and playing together. She saw her school, her teachers, her favorite books.

And then, she saw it. The event that had changed everything. The Great Forgetting, the catastrophe that had wiped out memories and changed the world.

Maya's heart raced as she relived the moment. She felt the fear, the panic, the desperation. And then, she felt the nothingness. The emptiness. The forgetting.

But this time, something was different. This time, she didn't forget. She remembered. She remembered everything.

Maya's eyes snapped open, and she found herself back in the dimly lit room, Axel's worried face in front of her.

"Maya, what happened?" Axel asked, his voice urgent. "You were gone, lost in the memory. What did you see?"

Maya's mind reeled as she tried to process what had just happened. She had remembered her past, her life before the Great Forgetting. And with that memory, came a newfound purpose.

"I remember," Maya said, her voice firm. "I remember everything. And I know what we have to do next."
