Thomas's back hit the wall and he slid down it, bringing his knees up and resting his arms on top of them. He had been trying hard to slow his breathing since he'd gotten back to the Glade, but it wasn't working very well.

Whether it had been from sprinting through the Maze for so long or from hearing that girl's voice in his head he didn't know, but he was slowly giving up. He honestly didn't care if the hyperventilation made him pass out at this point. Losing consciousness actually sounded nice. He didn't want to think anymore, his mind was racing too fast. There was no hope of trying to figure out what Teresa had been talking about.

Thomas felt his chest twist and his throat constricted in a different way, and his heart skipped with that familiar rush of panic you get when you're about to cry in public. Of course, he wasn't exactly in public. He was at the back of the Deadheads against the walls of the Maze, as physically far away from anyone as he could get.

Claustrophobia choked him then. He wanted to disappear into the wall. He moved one hand up to his shoulder and he put his head down on his arm, hiding his eyes as tears welled up in them without his consent.

"I'm not crazy...I'm not crazy..." He told himself.

"Bloody hope not, or we're all klunked." A voice made him jump hard, and he looked up to see Newt holding a big glass of water a few feet away. Thomas swiped at his eyes and looked away.

"Sorry, bad joke. Are you alright? You proper bugged out back there with the girl. Figured you could use this." Newt said, holding up the glass of water. Thomas didn't want to talk, he was way too shaky. But water did sound really good, so he nodded.

"Can I come closer?" Newt asked. The question surprised Thomas a bit, and he nodded slower. Newt slowly approached him and sat down beside him. He handed Thomas the water glass, and Thomas sipped it shakily.

"Anything seem familiar yet?" Newt asked. Thomas wanted to scream at him to shut up about this. It was all too overwhelming, too terrifying, too infuriating to think about, let alone talk about.

"Ah, sorry. We can talk about it later." Newt picked up on Thomas's breathing going shallow. Thomas looked away from him further, not wanting Newt to see the stubborn tears that wouldn't go away. Newt had though, but he didn't bring them up.

"Look mate, I can't imagine how you must be feeling with all this. Nevermind just being a Greenie, but going out into the...the Maze so soon after getting here, dealing with Grievers, and then this girl shows up and...causes all this trouble. I can't imagine, Tommy. I'm sorry you're having such a rough go at things. Things aren't great here, but...they're livable. And believe it or not, the Glade can actually be pretty nice when everything's going right." Newt said, looking at Thomas sadly. Thomas's face twisted as he turned away more. He shook his head, trying to hold his breath against the sobs rising in his chest.

"I know all of that seems like a load of klunk right now, but, I hope you get to see that at some point." Newt added. Thomas sniffled quietly. Newt leaned forward, looking at him. "You alright there, Tommy?" He asked, his voice taking on a much quieter, more gentle tone. Thomas just nodded, resting his chin on his arm facing away from Newt. Newt sat back against the wall.

"You want me to leave? I will if you want me to, you won't hurt my feelings or anything." He asked a bit hesitantly. He didn't feel right about leaving Thomas alone after all of that, especially now seeing just how much everything was effecting him. He had to give the Greenie credit, he'd been holding it together a lot better and for a lot longer than the vast majority of the other Gladers here.

Thomas shook his head minutely after a moment.

"No? You don't want me to leave?" New clarified. Thomas shook his head. "You want me to stay?" Newt asked just to be sure he understood what the Newbie wanted. Thomas nodded. A small surge of pride passed through Newt, and he smiled a bit despite himself. He didn't know why, but the fact that Thomas wanted him there when he felt so crappy made him feel good. Obviously, Thomas feeling crappy wasn't what made him feel good, of course not. Newt wasn't evil. But just the idea of Thomas wanting Newt around when he felt crappy felt nice.
