Chapter 2. Arrival in a new town
I was nervous flying on a plane for the first time in years, but it was ok because I was going to a place that comforted me greatly. It was about 20 minutes before landing and I was getting antsy.
When the plane finally landed, I was ecstatic to be in Washington again. I was also happy to be off of that dreaded plane. All of my things had been sent to forks ahead of time, so I wouldn't have to worry about getting my stuff lost on the plane ride over. As I headed off the plane I searched for my dad until I saw a big sign that said Aaliyah Swan. I looked past the sign and saw my dad!
I ran and hugged him, yelling "Dad, I missed you!"
Hey Li, I missed you too." He said with a soft smile on his face.
When I looked back at his smiling face, every negative emotion that I had felt up until this point just flooded out of my eyes. The tears just wouldn't stop. He ended up having to take my hand and drag me to his police cruiser while I cried. When we got to the cruiser he hugged me one more time before sitting me in the passenger seat, him taking the driver seat afterwards.
"Go to sleep Li, it's gonna take an hour and a half to get home from here. I know you're tired, especially after all that crying." He said smiling again.
I laughed at that and said, "Yeah, you're right dad. Are you sure you want me to sleep though? I can stay awake and we can catch up during the drive?"
"We'll have plenty of time for that over this summer vacation, so get some rest first." He said back to me. I simply nodded my head and started to doze off.
After a while of sleeping I felt the car rolling over gravel and then gradually stop. Then I was shaken awake by my dad. I got up groggily, feeling like my eyes were glued shut."You look like crap," he laughed at me.I glared half-heartedly at him, or tried to with my eyes like this. He just laughed harder. After he stopped laughing we got out of the car. We went inside and he showed me around the house."It still looks the same as when I left." I said looking around my old room."Yeah, I haven't really had the time to redecorate. You're more than welcome to do that though." He said."I may take you up on your offer Mr. Swan.""Please do Miss Swan."We both chuckled at our antics and decided to get pizza for dinner since we were both too tired to make anything. This is how I spent the first night in my new home.
The next day I woke up bright and early, feeling very refreshed. It was almost like all my anxiety had washed away while I slept. I got out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen to see dad sipping on a cup of coffee at the counter. I sat down on the opposite side of the counter.
"Mornin' Li, how'd you sleep?" He asked. I only groaned in response, essentially going nonverbal in the morning.
"I'll take that as good." He laughed when I gave him a thumbs up.
It's 6 AM right now, and school starts at 7 AM, so I had about an hour to kill time. I went back up to my room to read. I picked back up on book 4 of the Darren Shan Saga; Cirque Du Freak. I got into this series about a month ago when I was shopping for new books for the plane ride. I had stumbled onto an interesting looking box set, where there was a spider of different colours spanning across the spines of the books. I read the synopsis and I was instantly hooked, buying them immediately.
After reading for an hour, I booted up my computer and went to class. It's still May, so I have about a month left of this school year until summer break. Online school is a lot easier than in-person school because I don't have to be in one place, I can travel freely as long as I have my computer. That means I am free to move here to Forks with no repercussions.
I was done with school at noon and decided to ask my dad if we could go shopping.
"Yeah, what're you thinking of getting?" He asked.
"All of my delicious frozen foods," I said "I can't really cook, so I have to eat frozen foods or sandwiches and stuff."
"Makes sense, let's go." He said.
Dad grabbed his keys to the cruiser and we headed out to the store. We had a nice relaxing walk through the isles as we talked about random things. Picking up everything that we needed to stock up on and then quickly leaving the store after paying.
On our way back home, he asked me, "I've got a couple people I'd like you to meet, how does that sound?"
"Um, who is it...?" I asked meekly.
"Billy and Jacob Black. Do you remember them?" He quizzed.
"Oh! Yeah I remember Jacob, we used to make mud pies together." I said, fondly remembering those times. "Yeah, I'd be down to meet them again."
"Alright, I'll invite them over tomorrow since it's a Saturday." he said.
"Coolio." I gave him a thumbs up.
We eventually got home and put all of the food away. I chucked some frozen chicken in the oven and waited for it to cook. Once it was done, dad and I sat down to eat together. It was pretty quiet, not that either of us minded as the quiet is nice sometimes. We'd finished eating pretty quickly and I decided to head off to my room to decompress from the day. Even though I didn't do much today, I was tired. I went to my room and started reading until I fell asleep.
